Great to do my first PLP shoot with the legend that is Wes Morgan - absolutely great guy! ⚪️🔵🦊

We have very sadly lost the battle to overcome Sir Gino’s ailment and he has had to be put to sleep at the veterinary hospital this morning. He has been fighting from severe deep-seated infections that he had overcome last year prior to his brilliant return in the Christmas Hurdle but this time it had spread too far although his fractured pelvis was healing well. He was not only brilliant but one of the nicest kindest horses you could ever wish to see and this leaves an awful hole in Seven Barrows this morning and a very sad day for Joe & Marie Donnelly. They have had some wonderful horses over the years and they both care so much for them so losing such a young star with his life in front of him is particularly cruel. Sir Gino was unbeaten in all his 7 starts including 3 Grade 1’s over hurdles and an amazing display in a Grade 2 Chase on his one and only start over fences. We would have to say that he was just at least as good as any of all the amazing horses we have been lucky enough to have trained. Unforgettable in every way.

@olivercwalker That was the interesting thing about Mustang too. Had the option at Kempton to run against his own age group but didn’t.

Do you just back Joseph’s blind in the Fred Winter?! Might be clutching at straws but the Nolan runner is of interest. Saint Des Saints x King’s Theatre just makes me think that winning in heavy was potentially noteworthy as pedigree suggests better ground should suit.

Horse I can’t get a handle on is Sortudo. What’s his optimum trip? Outpaced after a slowly run Champion bumper but seemingly no excuses at Naas. Is a truly run two miles on softer ground the ticket or can he get away with further on better ground?

Sir Gino was transferred from Cheltenham to the Three Counties Veterinary Clinic and following scans and x-rays he does have a fractured pelvis but having spoken to the great team that are caring for him they are hopeful that although this is obviously significant they have reported that he is comfortable and stable. This is great news to us all. The prognosis is guarded and further examinations over the next few days while he is there will be able to determine the extent of the injury and any prognosis for the future. Thank you to everyone for their messages and concerns which are much appreciated and we will keep everyone up-to-date with any further news but the fact that he's comfortable tonight is the most important thing. Thank you
