Some interesting heart rate info from my race yesterday—my resting HR is about 70, but in the car, it averages about 140 with a peak of 178. On hotter days, such as Lime Rock last summer, it can sit at ~150 and spike to 200. Even in ARCA, we’ll burn about 2,000+ calories from the work. Plus, you can see from the rest of the day how long the adrenaline carries you—even on my drive home from the track (~8 hours) and unpacking my car I still sat at about 90-120bpm despite it being either sitting or putting away my gear.
We have to undergo a thorough medical exam and be cleared up to NASCAR’s standards every year before we get our NASCAR license, including vision tests, balance, reactions, and overall wellness. This is on top of a drug test, as well as random testing we’re potentially subject to throughout the year. If we’re involved in a wreck and have to get out of the car, we’re required to go to the infield care center to be fully examined before we’re released, all of which NASCAR covers the bill of. If we need anything while we’re at the track, they have doctors on site we can walk in and see, as well as prescribe and administer any medications/treatments needed!
It may be easy to think all we’re doing is turning left for an hour or so, but when you’re strapped into a 130+ degree oven at 180 miles an hour surrounded by 30-40 other drivers who all want to kick your butt, while you’re there trying to kick theirs, it can wear you out!

@JeffMaconi @bobpockrass No problem you can just watch the race from the pits 🤣🤣🤣

@bobpockrass Lots of fast cars starting at the back on a completely washed out track from this rain storm…lap 1 is gonna be interesting!

@JeffMaconi Let me break it down for you people I am slow and the other cars were faster than me, but I still think I’m a nascar driver

Solid start to the weekend! I only did one run of 8 total laps, and it was early in the day so we didn’t push the car too much. Alex ended up running 30+ laps and I’m within about 4 tenths of him, so we’re in good shape!
Tomorrow will be about surviving and feeling out the washed-out track after tonight’s storms. We’ll be in good shape I think as long as we can stay out of trouble!

@JeffMaconi @RyanBille4 Dude you don’t pit because you’re a start and Parker

ARCA East driver Dystany Spurlock's name is pronounced "Destiny" ... Who is her role model? And does she ever wish her name was spelled with the more common spelling:

Kansas is up next for me in the NASCAR ARCA Menards Series, and I can't wait to head back! I got to race here last September in the series, and ended up learning a TON in my first race at an intermediate, and first race on the Ilmor motor!
Our day started by practicing on scuff tires, where we ended up P23 of 29. I was initially worried about the balance of the car, as it was extremely loose on corner entry and I was fighting the car trying to keep control over the course of the 20 laps we ran. However, the team got to work, put new sticker tires on for Qualifying, and we managed to pick up 0.7+ seconds and qualified P21, beating 8 cars and giving me my best starting spot of the season up to that point.
We ended up starting P19, and I immediately went to work to try and pick up as many spots as I could in the opening melee. I finally settled in line and began fighting dirty air, which gave me a great chance to try out other lanes and work my way around the track. Unfortunately we ended up taking some damage under caution while another car was contesting us for a spot after they received a penalty, and they doored me onto the apron which pulled a water cooler line and the entire oil cooler out of place from the banking difference in the corner. We lost a few laps fixing the overheating issues, then rode around until halfway where we continued repairs to soldier through.
We ended up not getting a caution until about lap 85, at which point we decided to just save the spare set of tires we had in the pits after not taking them at halfway. We ended up riding around until a caution on the very last lap, at which point I ran out of fuel while pacing and had to make an emergency pit stop to get fuel before the Green-White-Checkereds to the finish. At the end of the day, even after losing about 8 laps in the pits, we still managed to come home 20th--I am confident that if we hadn't had all those issues, we would have been solid contenders for a top-15!
I can't wait to give the track another go. It was absolutely my favorite track that we ran last season, and I am excited to see how we stack up with a few more laps under my belt! Thank you to everyone on board the car, and be sure to tune in on Fox Sports for the race on April 18th at 12:30pm ET!

Rockingham is up next for the ARCA Menards Series East schedule, and while I won't be there, I turned some laps to give everyone at home an idea of how the drivers are preparing!
Rockingham is bumpy, tight, and FUN! I think half of the battle will be just fighting their own cars and the track itself before they worry about their competitors!
Who's your pick to win?

@C_Echevarria_92 @JeffMaconi Just citing facts and if you can’t deal with reality then keep living in your dreamworld because this guy sucks at racing

@DanKnowsRacing @JeffMaconi do you ever stop complaining or no?
