@DanMurphyGolf Great article Dan and very perceptive. Had the pleasure of watching Ryder cup at Gleneagles in 2014 and the English Am at SCGC this year. You have whetted the appetite for Lahinch.

My first visit to @DunavertyC5911 was quite disorientating to start with. Things did pick up though. What a spot. Lovely to listen to locals reminiscing about The Doyen in the clubhouse afterwards. I can confirm that Jock is fondly remembered @AGWgolfwriters

@Richard08156270 @jamierkennedy I think that is fair enough. Sorry to hear about the issues at Ashbunham. Re RND, reluctantly we have concluded that the course is a little diminished by the coastal erosion. Still an all-time favourite of mine though

@DanMurphyGolf @jamierkennedy Ashburnham and Conwy could be in the conversation? Maybe. But Porthcawl, Harlech and Aberdovey are the only ones I would die on a hill for. Real drainage problems at The Ash this winter, sadly. And btw where is RND Westward Ho!? That seems to me the biggest omission of all!

How many have you played? • Great to see Wallasey into the Top 100 • Good to see Cruden and Prestwick rising • Ardfin sneaking high on these lists • The Island should be higher • Need to get to Rye I'm at 52 of 100 currently.

@Richard08156270 @jamierkennedy Do any other Welsh courses merit a place in this list, beyond those two and Aberdovey, in your opinion?

@DanMurphyGolf @jamierkennedy I am obviously biased but I don’t think anybody I know in Welsh golf would put Pennard above RStD! The latter is very under-rated compared to other rankings (it’s at 49 in Golf Monthly, e.g.). Pennard is unique but it has long been a bit of a marmite course in the principality.

@Richard08156270 @jamierkennedy Yes, I agree that order is curious. Weird how courses go in and out of fashion on ranking lists. When I first played Pennard some 20 years ago, it was an outpost and never mentioned in lists like this one. Another unfashionable course, as Jamie rightly points out, is The Island

@jamierkennedy 49. Ireland is my weakness. Still think this is the weirdest and most idiosyncratic of the current ranking exercises - Wales is especially bonkers - but variety is the spice of life!

Had a game @CairndhuGolfC @CairndhuGC today. What a find - perfect if you are catching a ferry into/out of Larne or Belfast. Never a dull moment and the views in all directions reminded me a little of those @Bamburghgolf. Thanks to @TourismNIreland for facilitating
