For the 30th anniversary of Dancemania I'll be uploading high-quality scans of cover art throughout the year, as well as more promo vinyl recordings. We'll start a little early with the precursor to Dancemania, Finalwax 1000 Sampler (ファイナルワックス1000サンプラー) (TOCP-8455).

Whether it counts as an official Dancemania release is a point of contention. It never appeared on the official Dancemania website. However, it was listed in the Dancemania Diamond/Complete booklets, as well as the back of the Red/Yellow booklets.

Two months after Dancemania 1, Intercord Japan tried to launch a new series, Handbag Mania. It featured handbag house, known for its use of female vocals and pianos. Despite being named Handbag Mania 1, it never got a sequel.

Notable artists on this first edition include E-Rotic, Captain Jack, and Me & My, who would all go on to become mainstays in the series. I've uploaded both a raw scan of the cover as well as a (poorly) photoshopped version trying to replicate the gold foil logo.

On this day 30 years ago, Intercord Japan released the first compilation in the Dancemania series. Focusing on nonstop megamixes of Eurodance tracks, the Dancemania series would become a sensation over the next 15+ years, selling over 12 million copies total.

For instance, DJ Hyuji mentions that he talked with someone who knew Kohji Morita (K.O.G.) personally, and unfortunately it seems that K.O.G. passed away sometime in 2020-2021. RIP to an absolute legend.

Released almost one year before Dancemania 1, Finalwax Vol. 2 included tracks from many early Dancemania artists like Basic Element, Interactive, and Magic Affair. Although a few artist albums were released under the Finalwax banner, this was the final compilation in the series.
