False equivalency? Hardly. You’re missing the forest for the trees.
Yes, the 2013 backlash was over physical discs, but you're forgetting why Microsoft wanted that check-in: It was the trade-off for a "Digital-First" ecosystem. Xbox’s plan would have allowed you to sell, trade, or "give" your digital licenses to friends; functionality that still doesn't exist on PlayStation today.
Microsoft was trying to bring the benefits of physical (resale/sharing) to the digital world. Sony is just giving you the check-ins and the "30-day expiration" with none of the ownership rights.
You’re defending a system where you pay full price for a digital "license" that Sony can ping every 30 days and lock at will, with zero option to ever resell or trade it.
The 2013 ad was a great PR dunk, but 13 years later, Sony fans are the ones stuck in a digital walled garden with no exit ramp. You didn't "win" the DRM war; you just traded your right to resell for a blue background.

@ManaByte False equivalency. You forget what the issue actually was in 2013. The Xbox scheme was to require registration and check-in on PHYSICAL games. Xbox wanted to prevent sharing and resale of physical games. Don't you remember this ad? This ad was not about digital game check-in!
