Apparently it was 4 years ago today when I spent an evening figuring out how many issues of Amazing Spider-Man there had been, because Amazing Fantasy #1000 seemed like an inflated number. Results: Yep.

just interesting that this is going viral at the same time as the piracy conversation, the comic that a few times now has produced an issue that can't actually be fully experienced digitally, that is fundamentally tactile. Absolute MM is the one true successor to Ultra Comics.

You wanna talk about draining wealth from creators - start talking about "creator owned" publishers that actually take full rights, never deliver royalty reports, don't pay on time, or declare bankruptcy with hundreds of creators' IPs left in legal limbo.

It is a lie sold to you that pirated-reading is draining wealth from creators.
There are more instances of fully employed artists / writers ending careers with nothing to show for it. Your work being read online is a much smaller problem than predatory publishing practices.

Reading 60's F4 and Spider-man is so great because they were writing those stories without worrying about maintaining the status quo, so they'd just... evolve

You can tell this because other things that are sold to be read, such as magazines or newspapers, or Archie digests at the supermarket, are not by default put in a sealed plastic bag.

You know what would cut down on piracy?
Making books widely accessible globally & reducing the cost. Taking down piracy sites will only increase traffic towards other sites.

This is what gets lost a lot in these kinds of talks about comic piracy sites. Really it’s a larger issue with comics as a whole. A dual focus on things that are new and/or created by the Capeshit Corporations. Does piracy affect that? Absolutely! But RCO was more than that.

This is a narrow view that only prioritizes works currently available by intellectual property landlords. What if I want to read Wally Wood’s T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents? Or Valiant’s Magnus/Solar/Turok? US-1 or Shogun Warriors? Hundreds of books are trapped in this kind of legal limbo

@Admiraljoshhar DC Infinite and Marvel Unlimited if you’re in the states. They are literal back issue repository. Global comix is another great website and app for cheap where you can read dc, marvel, image, vault, and creator owned comics.
