Y'all don't wanna her this but the reason Land Back is better than "equal resource management by all people." is because white people have proven they do not deserve a say in how resources are used. Abuse and oppression will continue, at scale, if we let whites have a say.

@rhymeswithbee in the canon the sheep are also giant. Odysseus and his boys grab onto their undersides to escape.

Riddle me this: in the Odyssey, the Cyclops is raising sheep so he can make cheese. How does he milk their tiny teats with his ginormous hands?

Apparently, Emily Wilson was mixed on The Odyssey partly because it’s too modern. This is exactly the twist the culture war needed:

are the people aware that Ancient Greece stretched to North Africa? It’s important to me that people realize that Ancient Greece touched North Africa and had established colonies and trade routes in the region

@CinemaPrincipia i thought that they were doing the "Athena based on real girl" but then they cut to the statue being desecrated and the real girl was a metaphor. I'm just going to say i think Damon was the worst part of the film, he played every scene like he was on the lotus drugs.

I see a lot of people being very hostile to the idea that Odysseus's memories of the journey home are all PTSD fabrications, but I think it's pretty clear Nolan intends for that to be the interpretation of his film. 1. The movie begins with a caption that says "in a time of apparent magic," which seems to mean, people believed in magic back then because they didn't understand science. 2. Calypso's role in the Odyssey is very different in the film, other than she forces him to stay for seven years. In the poem, the gods have to free Odysseus, but in the movie, he's drugged, and all the flashbacks are presented as subjective from this point in time. Calypso never displays any supernatural powers. 3. We never see anything supernatural or any gods that are not presented in flashback or as a person seen from Odysseus's subjective viewpoint. Athena is just hovering around, you never see a direct interaction between her and a mortal other than Odysseus briefly. 4. Most Nolan movies have a big "twist" that occurs late in the film, and when we see that flashback of Zendaya that is supposed to be it. People who say that Athena is real, but Odysseus connects her to that mortal woman are doing weird mental gymnastics. The only reason people think it's ambiguous is Nolan is almost never that subtle with his big twist, and this isn't particularly subtle. It's just normally in a Nolan film the entire rest of the movie is about the twist after it happens.

@Fly_Sistah According to Ambo Mythology the first ma was hatched from an egg. No reason he can't be white in a film adaption.

@micheal_olainn These arguments are only used for European history. Surely you would not dispute the Mycenaean period is greek history and not african history for obvious reasons.

Helen of Troy Helen of Troy was not Greek. She is a pure myth. Greece did not exist in the Mycenaean period. Art and culture are not literal. They are works of creative imagination. The Odyssey is not history. It is a literary creation.

@SoMuchforMikey How convenient that there has never been a story where the protagonist being european was important.

Race does matter in both these characters’ stories btw. Who’s goddamn white baby is that 😭 Whitewashing erases their cultures and experiences that come with being in their racial groups. It’s an important part of their characters, on top of the fact that this is ugly.
Raichu mice@KingRaichu25

@theKrabs_11 So Whitewashing is bad but Blackwashing is fine? You're just racist and hypocrite bitches.

@Ofcimcold it passes through dead sons to living grandsons and granddaughters. They don't go into it in the Show but Rhaenys (and Matilda who she is based on) also had the advantage of being child of Jaes first son whereas Vis was son of the second.

If Hugh is the grandson of Jaehaerys the conciliatior and son of Seara Targaryen shouldn't he be the rightful heir to the iron throne??

Govt (yes, taxpayers) should be paying for most of this. The bill handed to people who get rescued should be an amount that disincentivizes dumb behavior (5K maybe for a rescue chopper?), not an amount that makes injured hikers think they shouldnt call for help.

Woman gets heat exhaustion only 2 miles into a hike at Yosemite and has to be AIRLIFTED out. The group she was hiking with may be responsible for the $70,000 helicopter bill. Insanity. lol

People keep saying this. If you want a racially diverse Mahabarata, go ahead and make it. I doubt it would do Nolan numbers, but you might get lucky. Nobody is stopping you from doing a multiracial Shaka Zulu! (Yes, people would complain. Like they are now. That's life.)
Greg McCoy@TwistedMcGee

@HistoryBoomer I can’t wait for the first diverse cast movie about a non European story.
