Linda Lavin - one of the all time greats. I remember, before Collected Stories got to New York, Jerry Patch told me about her performance at South Coast Rep and called her 'our Judi Dench.' (more)

I decided to introduce myself and tell her how amazing she was and she took my hands and looked me in the eye and couldn't have been kinder. There's a Linda Lavin joke in the last scene of the play and I didn't have the guts to tell her about it...

She was on fire that night. I only got to speak with her once. She came to the first preview(!) of my play Legacy at Williamstown Theatre Festival. I was already a nervous wreck but that put me over the edge...
