PM defends $20m fuel-saving ad blitz. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government’s $20 million public information campaign urging Australians to use less fuel is aimed at curbing panic buying and reducing consumption amid what he called a “global challenge”. Asked by a reporter whether the spend was the best use of taxpayers’ money, Albanese said officials were responding to sudden spikes in demand, including increases of up to 1,000 percent in some markets, following planning through the National Cabinet’s four-level strategic framework. Albanese pointed to footage of motorists filling jerry cans, utes and vans and even water tanks with diesel, warning that storing fuel in garages is “unwise”, dangerous and contrary to the national interest. He compared the behaviour to hoarding toilet paper during the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials said the campaign is also intended to give households practical information to save fuel.

It's the responsibility of drivers to ensure they can read and understand road signs and directions. There are plenty of courses provided by the government for people to improve their skills. Can you believe the government is profiting $300 million a month from the spike in fuel prices while you’re struggling? As the pain at the pump increases, so does the government’s GST take on every litre. We need to cut the fuel excise to give Australians immediate relief.
