@mightydudbolt I always felt it was a connection to the scene where he kills Mace Windu. He yells no before he takes that final step to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader. And he yells no again when he makes the choice to step back. It’s the inverse action of the earlier scene.

I think this might partly account for the much-criticized inclusion of the "Nooo!" in Return of the Jedi. I think Lucas may have wanted a clearer emotional connection between Vader's moment of ultimate despair in Episode III, where he learns he has killed Padme and lost absolutely everything, and the moment in Episode VI where he realizes he is about to lose absolutely everything all over again, but that he can actually do something to stop it this time, even though it will paradoxically cost him everything.

An interesting aspect of Padme's death scene is that, in the publicly available script, it says that after she speaks her final words and passes away, "Obi-Wan studies the necklace" with the japor snippet that Padme was grasping in her hand. But in the film, Obi-Wan looks at Luke in his arms and studies him instead. We do see the japor snippet later; the dead Padme is grasping it in her hand at her funeral, holding it against her still-pregnant-looking belly. I think this is interesting because in Episode I Anakin says he made the japor snippet for Padme so that she'd "remember" him, but Padme says she doesn't need it for that, because her "caring for [him] will always remain." When Anakin notices it around her neck earlier in Episode III, after his terrible dream of her death in childbirth, he smiles and says, "I remember when I gave this to you." So the japor snippet is associated with memory, enduring love, and children. Children are the enduring evidence that two people loved each other. They're like the japor snippet, because they're something beautiful that came about in an act of creation compelled by love. Lucas himself, echoing many artists, has said these very films feel like children to him.

However, note that in the very conversation Luke laments having no memory of his mother, he repeats his mother's exact dying words: "There is still good in him."

I think Gollum is impressive, but I think Yoda looks incredible in Revenge of the Sith, as good as or even better then Gollum ever looked in the original LOTR films. All that work figuring out how to do Yoda in Attack of the Clones (where he still looked good) paid off.

@mightydudbolt Gollum looked incredible at the time but the uncanny valley is worse in him nowadays, probably because he tried to be human-like and realistic.

@IMAO_ Maybe he just didn’t know who Admiral Akbar was? The sequel movies feel like they are made by people who didn’t watch Return of the Jedi much.

It’s hard to forgive Rian Johnson for killing Admiral Akbar basically offscreen — felt like a real FU to longtime Star Wars fans. I completely missed he was killed because I was distracted for that one moment telling my kid to get his feet off the seat in front of him.

NO space battle (in Star Wars or elsewhere) can touch the Battle of Endor. It has it all: excellent storytelling, beautiful cinematography, and special effects that put best CGI films to shame!

@BasedPota18 I think it’s possible it was originally intended as a temp sound (maybe even based off a note from Lucas), but given a deadline and a realization that George probably wouldn’t flag it, Ben decided to let it stick.

George Lucas said he designed Star Wars to play like a silent movie, so that you can understand what's happening in the story even without dialogue. Do you need dialogue to understand what's happening here?

We need a standalone Darth Vader game where you are the final boss. Imagine a simulator where Rebels freeze at the sound of your breathing while you crush hallways and rip X-Wings from the sky. This would absolutely rock!

@mightydudbolt This set was also effortlessly recreated by Gavin Bocquet and ILM (for the blue screen extensions). So many legacy sets get rebuilt and don’t look half as good.

I really like the visuals in the garage, the way Padme is frequently framed against the skyhopper and it makes her look literally angelic. I also like the way blue milk is introduced here for the first time (chronologically), matching Padme's gown. It's like a symbol of life and maternal nourishment.

The reason this scene was shot the way it was is because it was a pickup, though of course an interior of this scale would never have been achieved as a full-size physical set in the first place. Everyone wants to RETVRN to matte paintings, until they see an actual matte painting in a modern film. What I find more interesting than nitpicking blue screen compositing is noting how the interior of St. Peter's Basilica inspired the look of this scene.

Good, I was waiting for this kind of response, because in every case it is trivially easy to instantly find comparable shots from Lucas's films that are obviously more aesthetically interesting and emotionally compelling than any shot from Andor. I would be delighted if you would post as many purported counterexamples from Andor as possible, because this is really fun for me.

A habit Andor haters have is cherry picking 1 frame from the prequel trilogy when it gets mogged by pulling up practically any frame from any episode of Andor.
