In this week’s #MadeinNigeria, director @DanielOriahi wades into the debate about the future of authentic Nigerian filmmaking.
zikoko.com/made-in-nigeri…
"If I’m exposed to film grammar and I use it in my storytelling, there’s a tendency that when you see my work, it won’t necessarily look like a Nollywood film. But in terms of approach, those techniques are universal," he said.
Two years ago today, ‘Mami Wata’ made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award for Cinematography.
The film later became Nigeria’s official submission for the International Feature Film category at the 2024 Oscars.
I just saw a movie on circuitstv titled “The Weekend” by Daniel Oriahi and it was so so good. I remember “Taxi driver - oko ashewo” which was also directed by Daniel and I must say, he is special. Don’t rush art, take your time.
