@rxkeenan @like_clarence @TCGView But it’s not just the World Cups or Olympics, it’s Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cups, Cycling world champs etc Clubs of course have the opportunity to pay to be a sponsor but usually these Tier 1 brands have had partnerships for many, many years, paying many many millions.

@rxkeenan @like_clarence @TCGView Effectively, that would give free exposure to brands that haven’t paid. It’s a commercial rights protection mechanism rather than a branding clarity issue. If sponsors are paying for exclusivity, the organiser has to deliver a completely controlled visual environment.

This is really stupid. Let local teams get a few weeks of recognition.

@rxkeenan @like_clarence @TCGView This isn’t a fifa thing - this is a key requirement for all major sport events (as someone involved in the planning & delivery). Sponsorship and licensing is taken extremely seriously so all venues, regardless of their sponsor / club, will have their logos replaced temporarily.

@like_clarence @TCGView Explain it to me then, since you’re so worldly. Why do 2 local teams need to remove all branding from their permanent home for a short tournament? They’re not product advertisements.
