Am I crazy, or is Claude Opus 4.7 about 10x stupider the last 3-5 days than it was the previous week or two? I’ve noticed a drastic difference.

@homeservicebase Dang. Maybe I’m just losing it. I was beyond blown away up until like last Thursday, and now it’s acting like a 2024 GPT model for me. No idea what’s going on. Feels like they halved the compute on me!

@Daniel__McCarty For me, it works great! 4.7 becomes more accurate and straight to the point. It does what you ask for, at least for coding tasks.

One summer, many years ago, a banker was vacationing in a small village on the coast. He saw a fisherman in a small boat by the pier with a handful of fish that he had just caught. I have a full and wonderful life.” The banker scoffed at the young man, “Well, I’m a businessman from New York! Let me tell you what you should do instead of wasting your life like this! You should catch more fish to sell to others, and then buy a bigger boat with the money you make so you can catch even more fish!” “And then what?” asked the fisherman. The banker’s eyes got all big as he enthusiastically explained, “You can then buy a whole fleet of fishing boats, run a business, and make a ton of money!” “And then what?” asked the fisherman again, and the banker threw his hands in the air and said, “You’d be worth a million! You can then leave this small town, move to the city, and manage your enterprise from there!” “How long would all this take?” asked the fisherman. “Fifteen to twenty years!” replied the banker. “And then what?” The banker laughed and said, “That’s the best part. You can then sell your business, move to a small village, sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take naps in the afternoon, go for an evening stroll with your wife after dinner, relax, sing, and play the guitar with your friends. You would have a full and wonderful life!” The fisherman smiled at the banker, quietly gathered his catch, and walked away.

Has anyone else ever had their Google Ads account hacked? Had someone gain access to our account (which had 2FA), add themselves as admin, kick all of us out, jack our spend limits way up, and presumably try to run crypto scams or something (using I guess the goodwill we had with Google ads). I thought it would be fairly common, but everyone I’ve talked to has sort of given me a funny look and said they’ve never heard of that before.

1. Men act purposively to attain ends 2. Their wants are endless 3. Their means are limited 4. Their values are personal (subjective) 5. Their ideas, values and goals are always changing 6. They may make mistakes 7. At any instant in time, they are aiming at what they consider most important 8. They try to use the easiest way to get what they want

My current view of the service business tech stack: The old way seemed to me to buy software, adapt your business to their workflows, and hope they innovate faster than competitors. The new way seems to be to maximize API/data extraction from whatever software you use, own and house the data yourself, and build custom AI agents around your actual workflow. Being locked into one platform’s AI roadmap is a huge risk. Get the plumbing right to stay flexible as everything keeps changing (rapidly).

Voice AI and the inbound contact center tech is moving so, so fast. Every week a new vendor is reaching out and demoing us amazing products. Open source. Closed source. I have no idea how any company is going to “win” in the end. They are all progressing so fast. Especially with the software shakeup that’s coming, I think the tech stack for a local service company is going to look really, really different in 36 months than it does today. Staying nimble, and developing the core capability of being flexible on rapid tech change is the name of the game. It’s just so much change. Have to thread the needle.

As if all our problems are primarily caused by a lack of abundance.

@dylthorn We have. We thought long and hard before confirming the decision to franchise. It’s definitely part of the long term plan. We own San Antonio and will likely own more markets over time as well.

Some of my thoughts on ETA vs Franchising in the current environment. I'm biased here. I was a searcher. Who pivoted to building JunkStart. Disclaimer: Most businesses are not worth buying. @sodacitysimpson Agreed unfortunately. But I do think that short-term (stupid), fran-dev focused, fly-by-night COVID era game is playing out real-time and won't last forever. Ignore the universal principles of business at your peril. They will reap what they sow.
