@dee_bosa It might end up a distillation story. As in, Gemini might need to distill Kimi K3.

lots of folks want Kimi K3 to be a distillation story.... distillation may be part of it but it doesn’t explain how Chinese AI labs keep designing, training, and shipping models this good, this quickly. "they copied" is not an AI strategy... time to build an American open source one

Big news: Kimi-K3 by @Kimi_Moonshot is now #1 in the Frontend Code Arena with 1679 pts, surpassing Claude Fable 5. This is a 17-place jump from Kimi-k2.6 (#18 -> #1). In Frontend, Kimi-K3 ranked #1 in 6 of 7 domains: Brand & Marketing, Reference-Based Design, Data & Analytics, Consumer Product, Simulations, and Content Creation Tools, landing #2 only in Gaming behind Fable 5. The full model weights will be released by July 27. Congrats to the @Kimi_Moonshot team on this major milestone!

Beginning July 20, Claude Fable 5 will be included in all Max and Team Premium plans, at 50% of limits. Pro and Team Standard users will continue to have access to Fable via usage credits, and will receive a one-time $100 credit. Demand for Fable has been challenging to predict, which is why we rolled it out to subscription plans in stages, extending access several times as we secured additional capacity.

@minchoi Our 2T model, which is better than our 1.5T in every way, will finish initial training next week. It might be able to exceed Kimi, but with speed and token efficiency close to our 1.5T (aka Grok 4.5).

Grok 4.5 is only 1.5T parameters. Kimi K3 is 2.8T... and costs 3× more per task. SpaceXAI cracked intelligence efficiency. Now imagine Grok at 3T.

I follow a large part of the OpenAI and Anthropic teams here on X, and I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, but the OpenAI crowd posts games they built, research they’re working on, websites they made, then they analyze, criticize, and play around with other people’s creations, ask for feedback, talk to the public, laugh, and the Anthropic crowd, well... They do absolutely none of that.

5 questions @AnthropicAI needs to justify since Kimi k3. 1. Why is fable worth $50/1M tokens when Kimi is priced at the cost of compute? 2. Why should enterprises adopt Claude with 50x higher price & less enterprise-friendly data terms? 3. Why is @AnthropicAI worth 50x the valuation of Kimi when their models are on par? 4. What's the long-term moat for Anthropic, if their entire business model relies upon the fact that they have to be the no.1 frontier model at ALL times; if even 1 open weight competitor beat them, their entire pricing model broke. 5. Will model companies eventually ALL get commoditized and valued at the cost of compute? To respond to the above ordeal, I am betting @AnthropicAI will do the following: 1. Double down on Claude app, claude tag, whatever. Give people Fable forever with no 5h limits. Just double down. Anthropic is not a model-only company; it's a harness/application powerhouse. 2. Double down on Claude drug/finance/legal and deliver outcomes directly and make $$ from outcomes. 3. "AI is unsafe" and therefore we must ban China's open weight motherfuckers. Lobby harder. 4. "Our model is safe" so no more Mythos-too-scary bullshit just launch the fucking new model now. 5. IPO. IPO. IPO.

What Kimi K3 means for USA AI: 1. FYI Kimi K3 is open weight and will be released on July 27, 2026. 2. When the best open weight model exceeds the best closed-source model, how does @AnthropicAI justify its Fable pricing? Why would anyone pay for that? Not to mention the Mythos drama and dumbing down for "safety reason". Kimi doesn't care about "safety", 3. Kimi's most recent funding round values the company at $20 Billion as of 2 months ago. Anthropic is worth almost 1 Trillion, 50x. Why? 4. If enterprises get to use best frontier model while keeping their data in house, why would they EVER use Anthropic and give away their data? 5. If China can build better models in-house with chip blockage, why the fuck did we ban @nvidia from selling their best chips. What's scarier is if Huawei became the status quo for chips. Nightmare. 6. China has way more frontier labs than USA: Kimi, GLM, Deepseek, Alibaba, Bytedance, Kling etc. Not to mention for multimodal models like video gen, China has dominated the rank for a while. Meanwhile, we only see OpenAI & Anthropic performing even close. What does it mean for USA to keep its tech advantage?

Kimi is right about the same level as Fable and Sol, and pretty cost efficient at that. Very unlikely for Opus 5 to be at the same level as Fable and more efficient than Kimi K3/Sol xhigh.. So I'd say Anthropic's quite cooked if they don't release the next Fable soon. deepswe.datacurve.ai

reminder - opus 5 drops next week and it'll probably beat K3. the #1 advantage anthropic and openai have is they can distill their own flagship models into cheaper, more affordable models with high intelligence-per-unit-cost also fable 6 and gpt 6 will be here in ~1 month. the cycles are getting shorter.

Currently waiting for the next "adversarial distillation" press release from a certain lab since Kimi K3 proves that their moat is nonexistent and they need regulatory capture to secure it and justify their $1T valuation.

We now have an open model operating at Fable and GPT-5.6 Sol level. It arrived far earlier than most of us expected, and it has completely shaken the foundations of the closed AI labs. It is incredible. Absolutely insane. I would even go as far as saying that, in many of my own tests, Kimi K3 is better than Fable and GPT-5.6 Sol.
