Bit ironic to complain about ‘foreigners’ when Irish people themselves had a huge global impact. Irish missionaries and Catholic orders were deeply involved in places like Sri Lanka and India setting up schools, colleges, and hospitals in the 1800s and 1900s. In Sri Lanka alone, Irish-founded institutions like St. Joseph’s College (Colombo) and St. Patrick’s College (Jaffna) educated generations of people from all backgrounds. Same in India groups like the Christian Brothers and Jesuits, many led by Irish clergy, built hundreds of schools that are still some of the most respected today. And St. Patrick’s Day isn’t just an ‘Irish-only’ thing anymore it’s celebrated worldwide, including in those same countries, through church services, school events, and community gatherings. That’s cultural influence, not something to be ashamed of.
