Awful and frightening - A lot of trans women have moved to Seattle for their own safety in recent years to escape hostile laws and politics in most red states. If we don't look out for one another nobody will.

"A transgender University of Washington student was found fatally stabbed near campus, touching off a search 'to find the person responsible for this horrendous crime,' officials said Monday." nbcnews.com/news/us-news/s…

Do you have an elderly or disabled neighbor in NYC? Be a good neighbor and let them know about the free air conditioner program. If they earn $3473 or less a month, NYC will cover the costs of an A/C. Remember…last summer we had 95 degree weather. Look out for them

If you want to start wearing a K/N95 mask, again or for the first time, because of the possibility of a hantavirus outbreak go ahead. It’s okay to protect yourself & others. It’s okay to change your mind.

I wish people were more honest about the role desirability plays in their masking decisions. *Some people* do know better + still choose not to mask because social acceptance + the social currency attached to being visibly attractive matter more to them.

Its crazy how you can be a mostly functional child despite the endless abuse you faced and then you hit between 18 and your 20s and suddenly your body and mind are like "Heyyy so tutorial over and now you're going to become crippled from all that survival and trauma, good luck!"

There's no way long covid is the most common chronic illness in children and even more common than asthma and it's not a significant factor in the literacy crisis, yet I hardly see anyone bringing attention to it.

It’s so fucking crazy that everyone literally has l0ng c0v1d and we’re just supposed to pretend that chronic fatigue and memory loss and cancer and strokes and heart attacks are just part of being in your 30s like girl

One of the reasons people don't recognize ADHD as a disability is that they see ADHD struggles (with things like organisation, tidyness, timeliness, communication etc) as personal failings. That is ableism.

a lot of the time i see people going like "omg i feel so stupid i had to reread this page four times" and like. that's okay. that's the point of reading: don't just turn the page, but understand deeply what you're doing, specially if the sentences are a bit convoluted.

This is one reason that Toni Morrison reminds me of Nabokov, as I say in ON MORRISON. Oprah once asked her, "Is it true that sometimes people have to read over your work in order to understand it, to get the full meaning?" Morrison replied, "That, my dear, is called reading."

I'm frustrated that everyone is overfocusing on whether high schoolers should know the words "silhouette" and "gauche." if you actually watch the video, the alarming thing is that the kids are so stressed out at the sight of an unfamiliar word and don't even try to sound it out
