Thank you for the incredible support these last few months, I’m so proud to be a part of this club. To John, Bernardo & Pep thank you. Even in this short amount of time I’ve learnt from some of the best to do it, incredible humans and wishing you all the best in your next chapter. Have a good summer Citizens and I’ll see you all in August. GIG. 🙏🏿🩵

A coach who never stopped teaching. It sounds crazy to say this, but you made greatness feel normal. Even after hat-tricks, wins and trophies, there was always another lesson, another challenge and another level to reach. That mentality changed this club forever and changed me too. The honour of a lifetime to work with the best. Thank you for everything, boss 🙏🏻 🩵

@City_Xtra Would have loved him at Girona, loaning some underperforming players there, but they got relegated

Pep Lijnders on leaving #ManCity: “My wife and I want a permanent place for our growing sons. Moving back to England for years is no longer an option. Without my family, I wouldn't do a second year anyway. “The club wanted to move forward, offered me a position on a new manager's staff, or the chance to be head coach at a foreign club within City Football Group…” [via @ADnl/@MailSport]

#ManCity are hopeful of agreeing a deal for Elliot Anderson - who favours a move to the Etihad over Manchester United - and want a deal before the World Cup having already held verbal talks with Nottingham Forest. Those at the City Ground believe Anderson is worth as much as the £105M Arsenal paid for Declan Rice, while @ManCity currently value him at £80M. [@JacobsBen/@alex_crook]

I don't think Manchester City will dominate the Premier League any time soon after Pep. I think we are back to the era of anyone can win. In my opinion, Pep made a mistake of dumping what had served him well. He panicked, switched it up and never recovered. The moment he shifted from technical, hard working footballers he used sign to dominate possession, press high and create a lot of chances, to less technical physical bullies, he lost it. He used to dominate physical teams with xavi, Iniesta, Aguero, Silva, Villa, Pedro, Messi, etc, small technical players but they pressed so intense out of possession. Old Pep bought and sold Ibrahimovic. He wouldn't have worked with Haaland. He made that change to sacrifice high pressing for the goals. Old Pep wouldn't sign Donnarumma and weakened his buildup or Semenyo just to add goals from the winger, despite not technically built for small space possession football. He completely lost his DNA. I wouldn't say he ran out of ideas and started doing things he normally wouldn't do. I think he felt Arsenal as a physical force and tried to match them. He started making these changes as Arsenal started gathering momentum. But he's not good at dark, ugly, physical football. Even if he keeps trying to go the Arteta route, he will keep finding it hard. He needed to go back to what he's good at, which is building a team like PSG. Unfortunately, it's over but it's good for the Premier League. It's a wide open league again. Teams are beginning to figure out Arsenal’s corner-kick routines, so I wouldn't say they will dominate the league. It's anybody's league next season. If Chelsea do the right things, they could take advantage. It won't be that difficult to win the Premier League next season. It could be a 75-80 points League.

If Savinho and Grealish both leave this summer, surely City will sign another natural winger? 🤔 Doku and Semenyo alone are not enough for an entire season, especially with the amount of games we play. Do you think the club will target another wide player or trust the current options?

Manchester City’s punishment needs to be severe enough to the point where they feel all of the success they’ve gained from it wasn’t worth it. It needs to be seriously debilitating, I’m talking about multiple relegations, a huge points deduction in whatever league they end up in, it might even mean expulsion from the English football pyramid altogether. If I had it my way, Manchester City wouldn’t be able to compete at the top of football for a very, very long time.
