I sat down with @johnabrink and we had a pretty honest conversation about what’s happening in Northern BC right now. People are frustrated, and I don’t blame them. These are communities that have always worked hard and carried a big part of this province. Forestry, manufacturing, natural resources. That’s real work. That’s real jobs. And right now too many of those opportunities are being slowed down or blocked altogether. I know what it takes to keep things moving, and I also know what happens when things get tied up in process after process. At some point you have to ask who the system is actually working for. The people I talk to in the North aren’t asking for much. They just want the ability to work, to build, and to support their families without unnecessary barriers getting in the way. On International Women's Day, I want to recognize and thank the many women across British Columbia whose leadership, dedication, and contributions strengthen our communities every day. Yesterday was a tough and important moment on the campaign trail. I was speaking at @UBC to a room of about 150 young people about the cost of living, housing, and the very real impact these challenges are having on their mental health. Many of them feel like the system isn’t working for them anymore. While I was trying to have that conversation, protesters were shouting “F*** you fascist” and trying to shut the event down. That’s disappointing. Not for me personally, but because these young people deserve to be heard and they deserve real solutions. It’s sad to see the divide in our province. People are struggling and some are taking their own lives. I want to thank @jamiljivani for hosting, and @AaronGunn, @HarmanBhanguBC and @KerryLynneFindl who were also there speaking and dealing with the same disruptions. Every other leadership contender posts numbers that range from 11 per cent to 14 per cent among all residents. The vote consideration question yields important data. More than one in five British Columbians (23 per cent) would cast a ballot for the BC Conservatives if the party was still led by Rustad.
