Nerds have always cared deeply about fictional properties even down to the smallest and seemingly inconsequential details. That's what makes them nerds. If you're asking people to stop talking positively or negatively about a piece of fictional content, you're asking nerds to stop being what they are and have always been. At times, nerds can be cringe, petulant, or petty, but they're often insightful and always passionate and that's what makes them awesome.
