I paid her bill. She asked me "Why? You don't have to..!" I pointed at each of her children in turn, admonished the youngest to put her mask back on, looked at Mom and just asked that she "Pay it forward, if you can." That is all.

She kept trying to find things to return. The chicken, the milk, the cheese, the water. I just couldn't stand it anymore and after her last attempted swipe of her card (the third)
