Perhaps the illusion of respect and prestige that people who have that training use? It's often put forth as proof of legitimacy of someone's training or to try and show being above or better. I stopped including it in my bio myself because I don't feel I am better than any other person pursuing education. I can see glamorizing the protocol and ritual of what that training offered. You can still achieve the same training now, with better ethics and morality included.

Seeing so many young leatherfolk touting that they “strive to be old guard” …and I ask, why do you want this as a credential?
