Van Halen Album Ranking from Worst to Best #8: Diver Down (1982) Here we go… Yes, this album belongs here. I know it’s part of the classic DLR era, but this is the worst album from that original run. I don’t want to call this album “phoned in”, but it was recorded in less than two weeks. It consists of five covers, three short instrumentals and only four original full-length songs. To me, that doesn’t constitute a high ranking. Even if the covers are executed properly. Give me more original material. Now, the three original songs are GREAT. Hang ‘Em High is one of my favorite VH songs ever! Little Guitars and The Full Bug are great too. But that’s where it ends for me. I couldn’t care less about the one minute long interludes on this album. As for the covers. I mean, Pretty Women is catchy, I guess. Dancing In The Streets makes me think of the Jagger/Bowie version, which isn’t a good thing😂 Where Have All The Good Times Gone is probably the best executed cover of them all. Everything else is just…meh. This isn’t a terrible album, or else it would rank lower. It’s the original lineup and it has a few GREAT songs that overtake other albums. But I’m not going to lie to myself (or to you) and say there aren’t a couple Hagar albums better than this…
