Stanford University is the 2026 Databricks Grounded Reasoning Cup champion! 🏆 The inaugural Grounded Reasoning Cup at #DataAISummit 2026 is in the books, with Stanford taking 1st, UMass Amherst earning 2nd, and Yale University securing 3rd after six high-intensity rounds of live AI agent competition over 200+ years of U.S. Treasury data. Teams mentored by @AnthropicAI, @OpenAI, and @GoogleDeepMind built agents that tackled messy historical PDFs, multimodal chart interpretation, and web-augmented reasoning on real government data. Thank you to @USAFacts, the U.S. Treasury, our student teams from 11 universities, and everyone who joined live.

Congratulations to the winners of the #DataAISummit Apps & Agents for Good Hackathon! Over two days, participants used Lakebase, Agent Bricks, and Databricks Apps to build solutions powered by data from Virtue Foundation, tackling challenges related to healthcare access and infrastructure across India. 🥇 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲: 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗸 - A Databricks App that helps non-technical data stewards, NGO analysts, and healthcare planners profile, prioritize, and review facility datasets so they can be trusted for downstream decisions. 🥈 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲: 𝗔𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗽𝗶𝘂𝘀 - Turned 10,000 messy Indian healthcare records into trusted decisions for patients, planners, and hospitals, with every answer cited and each uncertainty shown. 🥉 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲: 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹 - AI-powered facility search, location insights, and trust signals to help families find trusted care faster and make confident decisions. The open sourcing is certainly the right call here. The harness layer only works if users agree on it, so figuring it out together is the way.

"With 100x the models comes 100x the complexity." Amber Roberts, Staff Tech Marketing Engineer at Databricks, demos Genie ZeroOps. An autonomous background agent that monitors your data and AI assets (such as pipelines, jobs, tables and ML models) and takes action before or when things go wrong.

“The need for ML has never been greater. We need to automate ML to keep up with the scale of questions we have to answer now, and the questions we’ll have to answer in the future. And the only way to automate ML is with agents.” Mike Del Balso, Director of PM, unveils the latest ML capabilities in the Databricks AI Platform. “We made the stack agent ready. We made everything serverless out of the box. The whole ML lifecycle is instrumented with a single model - they all land in the same governed tables. Everything is governed by default.”

“We are longer constrained by writing code. The real bottleneck is enterprise data, and governed access to that data.” Justin DeBrabant, Director of PM at Databricks, walks through Databricks Apps, and what this means for agentic app dev.
