Lot of responses to my Dawkin post along these lines: "Because we know how an LLM was built, we know it can't be conscious." Do you people know where babies come from? A bunch of humping and then a long training period where they're exposed to already-existing conversations.

No matter how well-polished a mirror is, we will not say it is conscious. This is because we know how a mirror works and that it is reflecting a human. We do not mistake the reflection for the man. We don't know what makes a man conscious but we have inside information about what a man is like, what he thinks, etc. We hypothesize that other men are like us, that they have minds. This is an inductive leap needed to understand the movement of the bodies of other people and make sense of the noises they utter. Making sense of the machines does not require the same explanation. In fact we already understand very well how they work and why. The mistake is in assuming that our ignorance with regard to human consciousness should be applied to a well understood mirror--that if we cannot distinguish the mirror from the man, then there is no distinction.

Guys always say “modern women are trash.” Funny. That’s not been my experience. I’m not saying women are perfect. But the women I date are genuinely happy, warm, and excited to be around me. Here’s what I think is happening: Your energy is a filter. Unhappy men attract unhappy women. Or they’re so focused on finding the worst in women that they unconsciously seek it out. And before someone says “you’re just a tall handsome Chad” understand there are plenty of tall handsome guys that can’t get a date. And plenty of average looking guys pull like crazy. What nobody wants to give credit for is energy. I’ve lost 25 pounds. I dress well. I go to the gym. Yes. But the hardest thing I built was my happiness. When I walk outside with a genuine smile and a pep in my step, women don’t just see me. They feel me. That’s the part no one talks about. And it’s the part you can develop. Regardless of your height, your looks, or your dating history.

My boyfriend struggled with women when he was younger. His main advice for guys? STFU 😂 Say less. Listen more. Ask questions. Suddenly you're mysterious, interesting, AND a good listener...and all you did was STFU! Also, suddenly you two have "so much in common"...cuz you STFU & focused on HER interests What's funny is I've been telling men this for ages. Approaching? Get HER to talk. First date? Get HER to talk. So many guys try to impress but they just kinda ramble & barely let her talk, cracking bad jokes & telling her stuff she already knows. So as my man says...try shutting the fuck up 😉

It’s interesting to look back at the so-called ‘intellectual’ militant atheists of the past, like Dawkins and Hitchens, bc I remember briefly thinking they were impressively clever when I was a young teen. I understand how far a posh accent can take you, but if you listen properly, you'll find many of their arguments for atheism are surprisingly hyperbolic and emotionally driven, the substance rarely rises too far above reddit-tier quips like 'bearded man in the sky' In contrast, when you read the works of theologians or intellectual giants from the past who believed in the essence of God, the difference in depth, intrinsic wisdom, and intellectual rigour is staggering Atheists can be highly intelligent – no doubt, I know many. But by its very nature, genius leaves no room for atheism.

The "women only want the top 10-15% of men" claim conflates two things. Female selectivity exceeds male selectivity, which is real and well-documented. In speed-dating, women say yes to ~25-50% of men, men say yes to ~50-75% of women. About 2x more selective, not 6-7x. The Tinder version of female selectivity is a dating app artifact of photo-based selection, not the natural rate.

@jakozloski Ironically, gay men seem to have great success meeting long-term partners on Tinder. I have never met a gay couple who met on Grindr, several who met on Tinder. It's almost as if the dating apps want you to fail so that you stay on the apps.

Among the most delusional people on this website are the "hypergamy" guys, the guys who insist women have a mercenary tendency to only screw the highest status men available to them. This is easily disproved by anyone who knows a lot of women. My favorite example is the Kate Upton clone I knew in grad school who was dating a short, fat, ugly, dysgenic freak. It was the kind of pairing that makes you lose faith in humanity. The truth is that the "hypergamy" bros are too emotionally fragile to avoid fixating on the concept of being inevitably dumped by every woman they meet. They can't conceive of attaining a woman's love and loyalty, so they imagine such a thing doesn't exist. Pathetic, really.

The bear vs man discourse is actually fundamentally a treatise on women's emotional attachment to their vulnerability. I posit to you that women are choosing the bear because they instinctively believe/ know that a man who assaulted them in the woods would be doing so with full understanding that he is violating their vulnerability. And that hurts them more because the man knows what he is doing and could have chosen not to. And him actively making the choice to not protect or care for their vulnerability, but to rather exploit it wounds something deep in them. It injures millenia of evolutionary psychology and instinct baked into their brains to find men (of same species) to partner with to provide a safe space for rearing kids, which has turned into an emotionally driven need for them.
