@lizslayed @BFI I know this because I picked up this book a few years ago from a charity shop. And I’ve just learned that it now sells for £150-£200! Btw Seven Pillars of Wisdom is really worth reading if you have the time (it’s long, lots of descriptions of sand…)

@lizslayed @BFI Yeah I love that. Sadly the Aqaba sequence wasn’t shot on location as the city looked too developed, it was filmed in Almeria (same region as many spaghetti westerns!). And Seville stands in for Cairo and Damascus. But almost all the desert sequences were shot where they’re set.

It was an incredible experience watching Lawrence of Arabia at @BFI. It’s such a masterpiece, every shot is perfection and Peter O’Toole is mesmerising, truly one of the greatest performances of all time. A film everyone should experience in the cinema at least once.

Back in around 1996/7 (yes it's 30years ago!) Channel 4 was still quite an alternative arty channel. Between 11pm and 5am it used to show arty foreign and British films, which I recorded on VCR whilst asleep. They had few ad breaks at that ungodly hour as well. Good drama!

@dunearrival The @ThePCCLondon is great. I’m all for an audience expressing their enjoyment but the superior performative cackling that inflicts cinemas screening older films is a disease.

Laura Dern this evening at the @bfi introducing David Lynch’s INLAND EMPIRE on what would have been his 80th birthday. She came across so very positive and sweet, with fond memories of working with Lynch. The first time I’ve seen it on the big screen in 19 years.

Tonight, I’m thrilled to be presenting our @LAFilmCritics’ award for Best Film Editing to MARTY SUPREME’s Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie. Here’s my essay I wrote in this year’s program. I could gush about this movie all night.

@chrisconnor96 I wasn’t as enthusiastic about No Other Choice as others were, but I don’t understand why it’s being virtually ignored. The Secret Agent was brilliant. Weird.

The real shame this awards season is the second successive complete shutout for Park Chan-wook. This one is more accessible than Decision to Leave and still likely to get precious little. Not to mention The Secret Agent's drop off too.

@chrisconnor96 @ThatMasonBoiii @Milo_AFC I think so. The first five have been published but only the first three yet translated to English. The premise sounds like that of Groundhog Day but it’s very much more than that.

@girlpatbateman I had a ticket but missed it, now glad. I’ve seen others post about yesterday. I don’t recall this behaviour at Lynch screenings in the 90s and 00s. Shitty audiences who see everything with performative cackling smug ‘irony’ are terrible. Does @BFI need to do conduct warnings?
