In 2027/18 Newcastle Utd went on to finish in the top half (10th) from 32 points after 31 games. They picked up 12 points from their final 7 games. The highest points total achieved from this stage is 45 points for Palace 13/14, Newcastle 20/21 and Portsmouth 03/04. The lowest points total for survival has been 35 points for Villa in 19/20 and West Ham in 09/10. On average teams go on to achieve 39-40 points. Those who start from 32 points at this stage and finish just outside the relegation zone need 38.2 points. Target still therefore has to be 39-40 points and three more wins are needed to be confident of survival.
