@DanCable1 In the linked MIT-SMR piece we explain how to conduct rule audits. We recommend starting by identifying the most disruptive rules. To do so, one could draw on both objective measures and employee surveys or interviews. #page=9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/marketing.mits…

Really interesting Bob. Is there an approach to this you like best? Like “each team member come up with one rule you would like to get rid of because it reduces our effectiveness” and then they explain why? Something like that? Maybe it could be a MEETING ;-)
Bob Sutton@work_matters

Subtraction is a beautiful thing in the right hands. Once you cut the # of meetings, what is next? I love the idea of a rules audit. They are like barnacles on a ship. You've got to keep scraping them off. @Leidyklotz #frictionproject

@work_matters @Leidyklotz Great stuff Bob! Along the same lines, my colleagues and I recently published this piece in MIT-SMR where we call for managers to enact "rule audits", wherein sludge-causing rules can be identified and modified, removed, or accepted as necessary evils. #page=9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/marketing.mits…

Let's add subtraction to academia! That's the message from @Leidyklotz and me. The sacred cows we listed for "trimming" were: Grading Enterprise software Reference letters Meetings Awards Academic papers What are yours? timeshighereducation.com/blog/our-do-li…

I live in a society that believes Jordan Peterson is a thought provoking intellectual rather than someone who is very probably enduring an ongoing and serious psychiatric event. great.

@ethicscrane The article says MBA students are motivated by personal and professional growth, and career opportunities. If we want them to see the importance of Economics, or Accounting, or Ethics, or Sustainability, we must teach to where they are, not to where we think they should be.

Ethics and environment is the least important subject according to MBA alumni - and one of the worst taught by b-schools. So, either MBA alumni are dumb or responsible business faculty are inept. Or both. Or poorly rated courses make students think the issues are unimportant.

If your business school is in the process of redesigning its MBA, here is a survey by the @FT on what alumni think are the most important subjects that their alma mater must improve at: ft.com/content/49cc2a…

Last night AB Premier @jkenney spoke about his concern regarding the "stigma" faced by unvaccinated. Reality: Being unvaccinated is not an immutable trait or a noble stand. It is almost always simply a decision –usually informed by misinformation & ideological spin.

@work_matters @Leidyklotz @timeshighered That's consistent with my experiences too. I haven't found a ton of research, but what I've read (mostly in medical and dental education) find pass/fail grading reduces student stress, increases cohesion, and has either a mixed impact or no impact on academic achievement.

@DaveRHannah @Leidyklotz @timeshighered Nice. In a small undergrad seminar, I set expectations (complete all assignments on time, attend and participate in class), and tell them to assume they have an A unless they hear from me. The quality of the work is as good or better than my class where I grade every little thing

I keep hearing that Canada is divided on vaccines. But we’re nearing 80% of the entire population with at least their first dose. We are probably more divided over Nickelback collectively as a country then we are over vaccines. This is a very vocal minority.

This will be my most sincere tweet ever. I am pleading with anyone who will listen. I’m begging you, as a nurse, from the bottom of my heart…please get vaccinated. Today. I’m so tired. We’re all so tired. And we’re running out of resources and people. Please…please help us.

I am so grateful that my university has mandated vaccinations, continues to offer both in-person and online classes, and is monitoring the situation as COVID cases rise. I really feel for my colleagues around the world who feel unsafe at work. Universities must do better.
