So, its quite humbling when a great colleague and good friend stands by their principles and walks away from a job – with nothing to go to – because of the chaotic, reckless restructuring proposed by the leadership team.

Currently reading the Snowpiercer graphic novels. Almost as dystopian as the 2019 Tory election manifesto....

Chris Bryant shreds Rishi Sunak. 6.5 minutes long. Watch all of it in utter shock. This is our PM. How our nation has fallen 🫤

This has been long in the planning but delighted the Primers have been launched - thanks to Steve Diggle for leading on these. Great that first one is from Georgina Lloyd & former #MicrobioJ EiC Chris Thomas from @IMIBirmingham #publishingforthecommunity
Microbiology Society@MicrobioSoc

The first article published in the 'Microbial Primers' collection of #MicrobioJ introduces the logic of bacterial plasmids. Read the paper online: doi.org/10.1099/mic.0.… 👈

Outstanding podcast on the coronavirus gain-of-function research in Wuhan that likely caused the COVID-19 pandemic. Highly recommended. If you can listen to just one podcast on the origin of COVID-19, make it this one.

Toxic cultures exploit generosity. Takers impose extra work on givers, and no good deed goes unpunished. Healthy cultures reward generosity. People protect givers from takers, and cream rises to the top. Helpfulness is not a weakness to target. It's a strength to safeguard.

I am really pleased to share something that @Lis_Lowe and my groups and some of our friends have been working on. Headline: We've identified the first mycobacterial endo-D-arabinanases. We've also found some new exo-D-arabinofuranosidases. Paper here:biorxiv.org/content/10.110…🧵

@pmoyniha @sciliz 'its ok they're nice' is what I say when I'm out with my kids! Who knows what they'll do - I try to keep them under control

@sciliz "It's ok they're nice" is one of my most feared phrases when I'm out walking my dog. He is pretty timid, and does not respond well when other people's dogs run up uncontrolled. Makes me crazy.

When you're trying to remember (and it's a long time ago) when a policy/procedure change wasn't completely crazy.
