After 19 months since Labour suspended MPs for voting to scrap the two-child benefit cap, it has now voted to scrap the two-child limit. Congratulations to campaigners, but the work isn’t over. As long as the benefit cap remains, thousands of children are left behind. The Labour government must abolish it in full, without delay. Anything less is austerity 2.0.

I wouldn't normally ever post a photo of my father but coming into 2026- I just dont want to hear the hateful rhetoric against immigrants. My dad came from India in the early 60s and went straight into hard labour. No help. Not a penny given..Double shifts at the steel foundry for YEARS.. The kind of work that ruins your body and shortens your life. Heat, noise, pain, exhaustion-day after day. He didn't get a choice. There was no rest, no therapy, no sympathy. He worked himself into the ground as did my uncles. Worked to THE BONE. They experienced racism and hate but just got on with building a life in Britain..as you can see he loved wearing English attire (and a drink with a fag) He saved money..because every penny was spoken for. We went without basics.. but we were never hungry. Every shift he worked went into that shop in Newcastle. That shop didn't come from luck, talk, or ideas. It came from steel work, double shifts and pain.. Earned with his body. The shop didn't run on its own. Mum and dad ran it.. We- his children worked in it before and after school..every day including weekends. Mum, dad and brother all died early deaths - I'm convinced by working too too hard. No - that generation of immigrants weren't different to the new..the new immigrants ALSO are desperate to work and make a life for themselves. This narrative must change in 2026 and we must give others a chance.
