One rather strange event of the past ten days: like ~600,000 Australians, much of my retirement savings is with a superannuation (think 401-k) firm called Unisuper Unisuper uses Google Cloud to store their data. Well, ~10 days ago, Google Cloud *accidentally* *deleted* *their* *account!!!* (Google Cloud seems to have confirmed, remarkably, that the fault was theirs.) They were, sensibly, using duplication across two different areas of Google Cloud provisioning, but when your entire account is wiped that doesn't help They were only saved by having a backup provider, and have now restored the data I usually think that using services like Google Cloud makes much more sense than trying to do stuff inhouse.
