@GabSutton @EFL He made saves I thought he should make plus a couple of 1 on 1’s which I though were very good. Probably made too many saves for BAFC’s liking. They rode their luck in the 1st half and took their chances at the other end. They were clinical whereas PVFC weren’t

@davidartell @EFL Apparently Crocombe was the star man for Burton - they certainly needed that

@_HannahJBrown @SarsonKelan Yeah I’m currently on a strategic management diploma course and the crossover from corporate to sport is very similar. And money all is a great film and book

@davidartell @SarsonKelan Occupational hazard! But yes, me too - really interesting to hear of applications to all these theories that were developed for the corporate world. That said, one of my HBS days was spent watching Moneyball - some great applications of management theory in there.

@Ashy_number3 @creights5 I agree. Maguire will need to leave in January one way or another and Southgate will then be justified in playing him ahead of the euros. Not playing colwill, dunk etc now could mean they’re unfamiliar with what’s expected come the euros if Maguire stays. Tricky one!

@davidartell @creights5 Trust is huge in international football because of limited contact time with the players so I understand why he’s picked but looking at the bigger picture. He’s not playing so any mistake will be highlighted plus his price tag will affect the criticism

I didn’t see the England match last night but, like I did after the Ukraine match, have seen Gareth defend the ridiculous abuse that Maguire is getting. The fact that Gareth has come out publicly is refreshing imo as more fans need to understand the damage their actions can cause

@Ashy_number3 @creights5 Great point re 2 games in quick succession-we all know you can get through 1 game. I think in international football you pick players who understand what you want and how you play which takes time to instill as you can only train for 1 or 2 days in each window hence why he plays

@davidartell @creights5 I didn’t see the Ukraine game so can’t pass comment. Playing 90 mins against Ukraine with little match fitness might have had an effect on his performance, tiredness and fatigue contributing to the goal. He’s an easy target, but I don’t think Southgate is helping, by picking him

@Ashy_number3 @creights5 I get not playing for club point. Re fitness I never see an argument for players not being selected when returning from injury and I see this as similar. And re mistakes- he didn’t make any vs Ukraine and got pelters so someone thought he shouldn’t do his job tracking his man!

@davidartell @creights5 I agree, the criticism is wrong. But should he be there in the 1st place? He’s not playing for his club, not match fit and therefore there is already an agenda against him. Any mistake will be highlighted and scrutinised!

Just received the devastating news about Ali Betson from @LMA_Managers Ali was a wonderful person who has helped me numerous times and had an brilliantly infectious smile. My thoughts are with all her family and friends at such a sad time.

@this_is_amber Apologies- I get your point now. And I agree with what you’re saying. Those that watch Maguire (or anyone else for that matter) regularly always have a greater understanding.

@davidartell Given the fact the england following was loudly supporting Maguire (to which he acknowledged with a clap) it isn't the people that go that loudly criticise. We all have opinions in who should be picked. They are armchair fans

@LDBtalks I don’t know Maguire but he seems to be really strong willed which is a good thing as he’s needed it lately. Doesn’t surprise me coming from the steel city!

@creights5 We’ve all been unfortunate in situations like that. I think most of it comes from Maguire wanting to stay at Man Utd and fight for his place which creates a narrative which passionate fans are more than happy to jump on, even when he plays for England

@davidartell Mate it’s a shambles. He was super unfortunate and did the right thing in his role. I saw loads jump straight on it

@this_is_amber I disagree amber. I think most of them just watch a clip online and then comment without context or seeing the whole match, even less so knowing the full extent of what Maguire should/n’t be doing games.

@davidartell Most of those that criticise are those that watch on TV
