Let's go over how the law works for lethal self-defense in gun friendly ("stand your ground") states: 1) You have no duty to retreat 2) You reasonably believe deadly force is immediately necessary to protect yourself against the other person's deadly force 3) You didn't start the conflict The only one that is not automatically evident in Chud's case is #2 as punching is not automatically assumed to be deadly force - but it can be based on circumstance Anything that amplifies the risk - repeated punches, inability to escape, suffering injuries, etc. can build the case that transitions it from unnecessary deadly force to necessary You absolutely can shoot someone who punches your head if the prevailing circumstances meet that bar Now so far all we know from the limited video: 1) Chud did not use the n-word 2) He was tackled from behind 3) Multiple punches were thrown 4) The attacker had a long history of violence (this can't be used to demonstrate fear by Chud but can be used to prove who started the aggression) 5) Chud has been receiving a lot of death threats It is very easy to build a case that Chud was not the aggressor. The only thing that will have to be sorted out is whether or not Chud can make the case he feared for his life at the moment of shooting Anyone telling you that "you can't shoot a guy who throws a punch!" is both stupid and giving you potentially lethal bad advice
