@BlackKnight10k @JoJoFromJerz Journalistic ‘integrity’ requires such deep choices, as in, which part of the grift should be played at any given moment.

@dieworkwear This post encapsulates the end game of social media. And more. Anyone watching for a while might recall DFW’s Infinite Jest, about distracting oneself to death. Derek, you nailed it with the deepest irony.

Something I don’t think has been said often and bluntly enough is that a lot of Canadian politics for the last few years suddenly makes a lot more sense once you realize the people left running the Liberals, both as a government and a party, just aren’t very good at their jobs.

I talked to Greg Sheridan of @australian (for the first time publicly) about becoming a lapsed atheist and embracing the Christian faith. I'm afraid it's behind a paywall (unlike Heaven), so here are the quotes in a thread: 1/17

@ianhanomansing Ian, it’s the blame the airport strategy so the airline doesn’t own the consequences and makes it more difficult for paying customers to recoup losses. Translation = it’s about money.

Translation? "Your flight (XXXXX ) is delayed further until 19:30 because airport services or facilities are limited. We're sorry for the inconvenience, and we'll keep you updated if anything changes."

At a meeting in Jakarta. Immediately upon identifying myself as Canadian, the first question was: "didn't your country just pass a law reducing international students? Isn't this self-sabotage?"

Productivity rises when you use labour more efficiently. Canadian business in general is too stupid to deploy labour more efficiently. It prefers to supress wages instead. Canadian govts cave to business on this Every. Single. Time. And then wonder why productivity sucks.
Randy Boissonnault 🏳️‍🌈@R_Boissonnault

We have: ✅ Adjusted the TFW program during the Global Pandemic to address labour shortages 🚦Slowed the amount of TFWs an employer can hire as the labour market tightened 🗂️ Tightened compliance measures and increased penalty and fines for bad actors

@MiroC It is not a feelance matter. The committee has binding rules and other interdependencies. A better question is why now and not years earlier.

It’s a legitimate debate over naming or not. If it’s national security, Five Eyes compromising, that’s one level. If it’s economic, I would love to see disclosure — all financial ties. And a restoration of cooling off periods for cabinet ministers and their direct businesses and family to any entity connected to government business. If I were a full-time journo, however, I’d publish it all. As fast including it - that’s what journalism does.

@TheRickWilson Dear Mr Wilson, First, happy birthday. May you & your beloved celebrate grrandly. Second, keep up the good work. Reason must prevail. Third, I implore you to cease denigrating soup. My normal soup repertoire of >2dozen are right side of curve to the average elected official.

How can we possibly have to pay $26 in fees for concert tickets that cost $70 total? Honestly makes me want to throw my computer through the window.

Maybe the hardest counter-factual in history, but the best histories I have read on the JP side suggest that in the aftermath of Hiroshima, the die-harders were not inclined to surrender and that it was only the second bomb that allowed the Emperor to seize control and give in.
Will Quinn@wc_quinn

There’s a complex set of historical debates about why the atomic bombs were dropped and moral debates about whether it was justified. This explanation is far closer to fact-free “propaganda” than pretty much any of those arguments.
