@AndrewMayne Great tip. AI is revolutionising learning. What I love about it is the granular control it gives you over how you learn, so you can tailor it to your preferences leaps and bounds more than you previously could.

@henrywinter Can I ask Henry, are there any circumstances where you would ever consider a price increase to be justifiable or do you expect clubs to charge the same entrance fee in perpetuity?

“The message is clear that supporters feel that their loyalty is being stretched and exploited.” Everton Fan Advisory Board polled fans on club’s ticket-price increases (some approaching 10%).... •       74% believe increases are unfair •       74% feel new pricing structure offers limited or poor value for money •       81% feel loyalty was not appreciated in the pricing decision •       82% rate Club comms as poor or limited •       62% say trust in the Club has eroded •       85% believe supporter views were not considered in the pricing decision •       94% want structured annual consultation between the Club and FAB on pricing decisions… “We’ve been clear since presenting proposals for a price freeze that we recognise the financial pressures facing the Club and the importance of being competitive both on and off the pitch,” says @EFC_FanAdvisoryBoard. Emphasises loyalty of fans, passionate about watching their team. “But placing an additional financial burden on supporters for an estimated short-term revenue gain of £1.5m is misguided and fails to understand the true impact on supporters and the inevitable erosion of trust.” On poll...1700 fans responded. 86% season ticket holders, 94% been supporting club for 20+ years. #EFC

Scott Parker and Burnley had to part ways. Slightly strange timing now with four games remaining – poor financial accounts just out? Been drifting since November, arguably could have gone then. Fans had turned on Parker, although still grateful for last season’s promotion and the 100-point season. Needed better football and more of a connection with fans. Burnley’s plight it’s not just down to Parker. James Trafford exit damaging, players not good enough, squad needs clear-out, then investment, smarter singings. Parker will doubtless pick up a decent job in the Championship – and do well. He’s just the type of manager that Burnley would have gone for having been relegated. 10 Premier League managers have left their jobs this season (+ five inc caretakers). 12 when Iraola and Glasner move, possibly 13 depending on Carrick. Managerial merry/miserygoround. #twitterclarets

I've said before that I don't think men should work in nurseries, and nurseries should have the right to not employ them. In fact, not only is it illegal for nurseries to not hire men, the government is running a PR campaign to encourage them to apply! gov.uk/government/new…

@henrywinter Burnley are in the championship next season; who's good at getting teams promoted from the championship? Oh yeah, Scott Parker.

@henrywinter He’s done well and deserves a crack at the permanent job. But he did the same at the Boro, got off to a flyer, then it all went south. I’d still be tempted by Iraola.

Manchester United closing on Champions League football, and Michael Carrick surely closing on the permanent role. 13 games, 9 wins, 2 draws, 2 defeats. The performances haven’t all been convincing but the results largely have been. A good performance/result against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday might make the clamour for Carrick irresistible. Unless Ineos can tempt one of the big beasts of management to Old Trafford. But who? Julian Nagelsmann? Luis Enrique? Difficult. Carrick favourite. He's done everything that Ineos has asked so far. He came in and changed the tactics. He changed the form and changed the mood amongst the players and amongst the support. Against Brentford, Carrick tweaked the team at half-time to a five to give United more control. Important change. Decisive. Helps having one game a week, more time at Carrington to prepare. Different rhythm and challenge next season - if he gets the job. The football needs to be better. One thing is certain: starting XI needs strengthening, squad needs deepening. #MUFC

Leeds United can take pride in their season. Leaving Wembley disappointed and frustrated actually shows what they have achieved this season. They under-performed compared to some of their more vibrant, assertive form on that seven-game unbeaten run. Leeds lost (deservedly) to a newly-motivated Chelsea side whose starting XI cost £551m. Leeds’ starting XI cost £103m. It's not a level playing field for starters. Leeds went out with a whimper, too meek in the first half, but have over-achieved this season. Plenty of reasons for positivity. Close to confirming they’re staying up, against gloomy pre-season predictions of many rivals. Six points clear of the drop zone with four games remaining and Burnley at home on Friday. Showing a togetherness in the team and between players and supporters that others covet. Generating atmospheres in stadia that few can match. Guided by a likeable head coach in Daniel Farke who made the right decision when the pressure was on most, changing the tactics and mood (Etihad, Nov 29). Good players like Gudmundsson and Ampadu stepping up, Calvert-Lewin getting back in England contention, Stach class. A fully fit Stach would have helped against Wembley (arrived at the break). An earlier tweak to 3-4-2-1 to combat Chelsea’s control and give DCL some support might have helped (Farke did go to a back-four at half-time but Chelsea closed down the game, including time-wasting and tactical time-outs). Leeds can still take pride in reaching the semi-final of the Cup, taking 34,000 to Wembley, and could easily have sold out the stadium on their own. That river of white and yellow flowing from all parts towards football's HQ confirmed the size of the club and the passion it stirs. Need to strengthen further in the summer, keep key players, and continue building. A bad day at Wembley, a missed opportunity, a sense of dismay, cannot slow Leeds United's revival. #LUFC

Inspired appointment. One of the most formidable communicators in the battle of ideas, on any side.
Institute of Economic Affairs@iealondon

🗣️ We are delighted to announce that @DanielJHannan will be joining us as our new Director General. "The IEA set Britain free. When it was founded in 1955, there was a consensus in favour of high spending, industrial management and economic planning. Ralph Harris and Arthur Seldon showed people what was wrong with those ideas, and thus unleashed the genius of our nation. We face a similar challenge today. Public spending and taxation are higher now than they were in 1955. We are back to the fatal conceit, the idea that politicians, bureaucrats and planners know best. Just like the IEA's founders, we need to change people's minds, to open people's eyes. The route to national prosperity, now as then, is through deregulation, free trade, sound money and low spending. It's not just the politicians we need to convince; it's not even primarily the politicians. When voters understand the case for smaller government, MPs follow. I am so grateful to every one of my predecessors, from Ralph Harris, who inspired me as a teenager, to David Frost, whom I am proud to call my friend. They kept the flame burning. Now it is time to heap up the fire." — Lord Hannan of Kingsclere, incoming Director General of the IEA, from 1 June 2026.

End of Football Focus. End of an era. No great surprise. Clashed with games, fixtures all over the place and people consume football content differently in a digital era. The Hand of Pod everywhere. Worth remembering that FF showcased plenty of great interviews, insight & talent over past 52 years 📺🙌
Match of the Day@BBCMOTD

An incredible 52-year journey comes to an end. Following extensive consideration, BBC Sport has made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Football Focus at the end of this season. First broadcast in 1974, Football Focus is a testament to the brilliant team who have worked on it over the years and, of course, the audience. The programme has been a staple of the BBC’s football coverage for decades, providing fans with interviews, analysis and stories from across the game ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. But changing audience behaviours mean fans are now increasingly consuming football content in different ways and we need to respond appropriately as we face difficult decisions around how the licence fee is spent. Fans are accessing discussion, highlights, analysis and news through digital platforms and on-demand viewing and as viewing habits continue to evolve, it is right that BBC Sport adapts how it brings football coverage to the widest audiences across television, radio, online and to its extensive social platforms. BBC Sport boasts a strong football rights portfolio and is set to significantly expand its digital output this year growing content across BBC platforms, as well as a bold new slate of exclusive shows on YouTube. Featuring fresh formats, big personalities and more frequent, always-on content tailored for digital audiences, the expansion will bring fans closer to the game than ever before delivering more high-quality, accessible and engaging football coverage at scale. We will release further details on these plans in the coming months.

If Chelsea’s leadership decide to dismiss Liam Rosenior how poignant that his last match as their head coach was at Brighton. The club where he finished his playing career, where he started coaching (as assistant of their Under-23s), where he was part of a family ethos that Chelsea currently lack, where there was support for individuals enduring difficult times, where talent gets developed and players take responsibility and work hard for the manager and the club. A club which showed empathy for a devastated Rosenior last night. Rosenior is struggling, the players aren't responding or delivering, the results and performances are unacceptable, the fans have been let down and he probably will be dismissed soon. But Chelsea's board must appreciate this: their club has bought plenty of players from Brighton. They could do with acquiring some of their culture, too. #CFC #BHAFC

Completely unacceptable performance by Chelsea. Embarrassing. No organisation, no heart, no fight, no pride, no leadership, no goal threat. It’s like they’ve given up at Brighton. Just because they’re near the beach doesn’t mean they’re allowed to be on it. Shameless performance. No wonder the fans are furious. These aren’t useless players, they’re internationals, which makes their abject showing at the Amex even worse. Overpaid underperformers. Liam Rosenior will probably pay the price for this string of shameful displays and results, he’s out of his depth, but he’s the symptom of the malaise at Chelsea, not the cause. Club needs some grown-ups, experienced football people in the boardroom, in the recruitment department and in the dressing-room. Chelsea are such a contrast to Brighton & Hove Albion, who are so well-run on and off the field. BlueCo has to look, listen and learn. Because Boehly and Eghbali are currently overseeing a self-inflicted shambles. #CFC
