The Government's stance on Peter Mandelson's security vetting is inexplicable. It looks to me like the internal machinery of Government is falling apart, particularly in respect of being straightforward with Parliament. Today, I challenged the Prime Minister on why he chose to ignore the advice of the then Cabinet Secretary before appointing Mandelson as our Ambassador to Washington.

It is hard to believe that Labour is even considering paying £1bn a year to the EU. Has everyone forgotten that we buy more from them than they do from us, and have done ever since we joined the Common Market? If anything, they should be paying us! (Actually they shouldn’t. Free trade should be just that, free)And our exports to them post Covid are broadly on trend for pre-Brexit levels. The restraints on growth are down to appalling tax and regulatory policies, as well as some global headwinds. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

The treatment of human rights lawyer Narges Mohammadi by the Iranian regime is nothing short of barbaric. The Nobel Prize winner’s life is at risk because of the brutal authoritarianism of this regime. All other civilised countries, both Muslims and other religions should protest vigorously. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Great to speak with the University of Hull Conservatives on their campus tonight. Some really bright, insightful questions and always a pleasure to visit.

Today I set out in the Chamber why I believe the Prime Minister should be referred to the Committee of Privileges. See my full speech below 👇 youtube.com/watch?v=jQOr-e…

Today, MPs will decide whether to refer the Prime Minister to the Committee of Privileges. The vote is not about deciding the PM's guilt or innocence - it is about determining whether there is a case for the PM to answer. On the evidence before us, there plainly is. This case should go to the Committee of Privileges.

Last night, Labour voted to continue with its disastrous Troubles Bill and take it forward into the next parliamentary session. I made my thoughts on this quite plain in the @HouseofCommons: it's unpatriotic, it's disingenuous, and it's dishonourable.

Last Thursday, my IPSA-funded website was compromised. Malicious links were inserted, redirecting users to Southeast Asian gambling sites. We took it down immediately. It was restored - but then came under a sustained distributed denial-of-service attack traced to China. In just 24 hours, the site was hit with some 142 million requests, consuming nearly 800 gigabytes of data. Today I asked what the House authorities are doing to protect MPs from these kinds of malicious cyber threats 👇🏻

The Government's Troubles Bill is nothing but a pernicious and vexatious attack against our veterans who served bravely in Northern Ireland. Labour is now scrutinising decisions made in split seconds under extreme circumstances, by soldiers doing their duty to their country. Today I read out a statement from Soldier B condemning this lawfare as the Government prepares to carry over this harmful Bill into the next parliamentary session.

Yesterday Richard Williams, past commander of 22 SAS, and I spoke to Freddy Gray on the Spectator’s Americano podcast about how our Government is destroying our special forces alliance with America. Our American allies are increasingly concerned about our Government’s disgraceful treatment of our special forces and they are right to be. Listen here 👇 youtu.be/X2ugkacUvDQ?si…

The Government‘s Troubles Bill threatens our military veterans with lawfare and legal witch hunts. In particular it will undermine our Special Forces. It will damage their confidence to act, harm recruitment, and drive hugely experienced warrant officers out, and our national security will pay the price. Our Special Forces deserve our support, not political witch hunts. Comments by Richard Williams (the past CO of 22 SAS) and myself in the Spectator spectator.com/article/trump-…

For our soldiers at the Battle of Danny Boy, wriggle room meant mustering the physical courage to crawl through fields under enemy fire.   For Lord Hermer and his clients, it meant an escape hatch for when their allegations collapsed. 1/9

Lord Hermer pursued a "witch hunt" against our veterans. This yet again demonstrates this Government's instinct to undermine our soldiers at home while they were fighting abroad. This Government does not value honour, courage or patriotism – and our veterans deserve far better than ministers who sided with proven lies instead of with those who risked everything for their country. telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2026/0…

Today on St George's Day, the Telegraph reported that the Attorney General, in private, gave advice on bogus allegations against British veterans. He should recuse himself from giving advice on such matters, but especially on the Troubles Bill which as it stands at the moment at least, will victimise even more British soldiers. I asked the Leader of the House if we can have a debate on the misuse of such government legal advice:

Yet again, this demonstrates the risks of keeping extraordinarily personal records in insecure environments. Such databases should not be open to the internet at all, particularly given the serial incompetence of various health authorities in protecting these sensitive records. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

The Infected Blood scandal left thousands of people with severe, life-long illnesses. Victims and bereaved families deserve compensation and closure. 15,000 people are waiting to start the process to get that compensation I asked the Government what it is doing to speed up the payment of the compensation victims deserve.

This statement is distinctly uninformative. There must be substantive backing to any amendments to the Bill. The test of that is whether we will still have British soldiers dragged through unnecessary coronial inquests, hounding them in their retirement, undermining the morale of serving troops, and smearing the reputation of the British Army. If the Amendments do not fix these issues, the Bill remains unacceptable questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statem…

Experienced voices are warning of the consequences: Richard Williams, a former commanding officer of 22 SAS, has described this as a "national security risk", with implications for Britain’s alliance with the US. Pat Harrigan, a US Congressman, put it plainly: "This is not good for America or its allies", adding when you "let lawyers turn combat decisions into courtroom spectacles, you do not just lose soldiers, you lose the will to fight.” The Government would do well to heed these warnings.

Some of our bravest and most capable soldiers are seeking early exit because the legal risk now outweighs the risk on the battlefield. Resignations have been driven by anger at investigations into Afghanistan and Syria as well as the treatment of elderly veterans who served in the SAS during the Troubles.
