The Ministry of Justice’s order to delete crucial court record archives is a direct assault on the principle of open justice. I know from my own battles to access court transcripts how challenging this already is. We cannot allow the Government to scrub the public record and hinder vital scrutiny of our legal system. Miscarriages of justice can take decades to resolve, deleting court reporting could endanger ongoing and future appeals. It is a disgrace. thetimes.com/uk/law/article…

Victims of the Horizon and Capture scandals have been suffering for far too long from the errors, mistakes and, frankly, the hypocrisy of the Post Office. It is time the Government put forward legislation, in the King’s Speech, to quash these convictions and finally deliver justice. My thoughts 👇🏻

The Government's attack on jury trials is opposed by the legal profession, the Labour backbenches, and even the Prime Minister himself in a past life. Today, I asked the Prime Minister why he is forcing through this unjust and unworkable policy, in the face of complete opposition.

Alongside 17 of my @Conservatives colleagues, I have written to the Prime Minister calling for the upcoming King's Speech to include anti-SLAPP measures. SLAPPs - strategic lawsuits against public participation - are used by ultra-wealthy individuals, including oligarchs, to silence their critics through expensive, bogus and damaging lawsuits. They are a grave threat to free speech here in the UK and cost our justice system, and ultimately taxpayers, many millions of pounds The Government, and Keir Starmer, should think again and bring forward robust anti-SLAPP legislation in the coming King’s Speech. Our letter 👇🏻

The Government has withheld the questions the Prime Minister put to Peter Mandelson, and his answers, prior to him being appointed as our ambassador to the United States. Today, I asked the Government to release that document, given there appear to be no statutory bars to release the document.

The Post Office’s behaviour is disgraceful - first with the victims of Horizon, and now with those caught up in the Capture scandal. They have admitted that the Capture software was faulty. Their own Chairman has said he would support mass exoneration. Yet still they fight the victims. This is indefensible. The Government is the sole shareholder of the Post Office. It must step in and bring this madness to an end. inews.co.uk/news/post-offi…

Tom Hayes was failed by our justice system. His case shows how easily the state can crush an individual. David Lammy should listen carefully before scrapping jury trials. This is a warning he cannot afford to ignore. thetimes.com/uk/law/article…

Today the government proposes to undermine the very foundations of our justice system by cutting back on the right to trial by jury. We have to defeat this bill today to protect British rights to British justice.

Maurice Glasman is right — the proscription of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is long overdue. Our allies have already banned the IRGC. The UK should too. Many of us in Parliament have raised this repeatedly. Meanwhile, IRGC-linked terror plots on UK soil have been uncovered and disrupted only just in time. Iran’s terror apparatus poses a direct threat to Britain. What more evidence does the Government need? dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

It was a great pleasure to attend today's Know Your North Ferriby event, seeing some of the fantastic community groups and local volunteers that make the North Ferriby community such a great place to live.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to talk to the sixth form at Pocklington School earlier today. Their questions were insightful and challenging, and demonstrated the calibre of both the students and the school.

Ultimately, the Bethlehem Principles were designed to help states navigate complex modern threats proportionately and lawfully. They are not there as a blank cheque for endless war, but neither are they an excuse for inaction that might put the democratic world at risk.

There is, of course, a case for the eradication of a hostile state's Nuclear sites, a case to attack the military bases of a state which targets our allies, and a case for military action designed to stop the activities of hostile groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. The question is whether the US military can achieve this with minimal collateral damage.

The margins for using military force under international law are becoming ever more blurred. In an era dominated by nuclear threats, terrorism, and cyber warfare, the traditional rules of engagement are being pushed to their absolute limits. 🧵👇
