@SandyofCthulhu Yes, but that's confusing the thing for its label. While there isn't 1:1 comp between then & now, Repubs were progressives of their time & southern Dems were conservatives. Jo is correct in that MAGA would (& do) align with southern Dems of that time, not w/ Repubs of that time.

Republicans won the Civil War. Democrats, the vast majority of the Southern states, lost it. There were entire Southern states in which Lincoln didn't get a single vote.

@theelvenqueen I know what you mean. Sometimes I think (hope?) that most published writers (and illustrators) are simply those stubborn enough to keep going despite the constant rejection and self-judgment.
