John Starks went 2-18 in Game 7 of the 1994 Finals. He wanted to wash that game away, but the remnants of that nightmare still lingered. He struggled at the start of the next season. It wasn’t until he cut all the lights off, grabbed a clicker, & watched the game start to finish that the demons were exorcised. He’d never ran from anything in his life & it was time to stop running from this.

The names that would be clear upgrades are untouchable. Plus Morey has hit too many home runs in Philly to overlook. Hamstrung by ownership, Doc, Embiid’s star say to play hurt, all limiting factors as well. Do think there is still a stigma the league doesn’t root for though re: China, analytics, star grifting, etc.

There is a fair argument for moving on from Morey based on results. But firing him as a punishment vs. firing him because you have someone you believe will be better are two different things. It is worth noting that firing Morey does not rid you of the Embiid or PG contracts.
