Over the course of my football career (and even more after), I have read many books on performance and self-development. While I enjoyed many of those books, and learned a lot, there is only 1 book I can say truly had a life-changing impact on me as an athlete during my career -

I agree! Multiple coaches taught me back foot first until I got to the higher levels. I learned by trial and error and watching the best to do it! I felt slower moving my back foot first in practice, and in games (when you react and not think/drill), I would move my left foot first every time.

Was watching a QB video today & it brought up the “when sliding in pocket should QB move front foot first or backfoot first” argument! So you know I am a front foot first guy, bc if you are loaded into backfoot while playing QB you CAN’T move backfoot first unless you shift weight upfront & then move, which takes time.. So if you are arguing that moving backfoot first is quicker bc once you set backfoot you are ready to throw & you are teaching playing loaded throughout the process… both can’t be true! Bc the time you are saying you gain by being ready with backfoot first, you have lost by shifting weight to the front before you can move! It’s easy in a drill where you know you are moving & you can balance your weight bc you don’t have to make any other throw, but if you may have to make a throw at any point in process & then are forced to me, then the argument doesn’t hold up for me! Open to all thoughts!

(Of course, the book goes into detail on all of this. But these are my high-level takeaways.) So, if you are an athlete in any capacity, I highly suggest getting a copy of this book! Its the one book I tell all my QBs to get at any level.
