things I plan to address in my talk before this film tonight is to clarify, thru my own research, much confusion surrounding this film that’s long been circulating. 1: it was shot by Mark Hardesty of San Francisco Newsreel & 1 other member, in Palestine, over 2 months circa 1971.

Worth noting that TWN has consistently highlighted that this was “Filmed in Palestine by Newsreel” which is clearly contrary to questionable descriptions of it as a compilation film

COLUMBIA REVOLT screens tonight in SF at 34 Trinity (doors 7:30, film 8), free & open to the people. we’ll have the fourth issue of our NEWSREEL DOCUMENTS zine as well as printed versions of an interview w/ Ben Morea on the occupation. film screens on a *restored 16mm print*!

COLUMBIA REVOLT (1968) was made by NEWSREEL as participants in the revolt, rather than merely observers. Collective member Melvin Margolis even used his own camera to break the windows of one building on campus in order for students & militants to gain initial access to it.

absolutely no reason for me to stick around for STRUGGLE IN ITALY--not really a film I need to see again--but just so delighted by rare Dziga Vertov Group screenings that why not. to my surprise, better turnout than WIND FROM THE EAST!

People often describe Wind from the East as being spoiled by politics, but every ten minutes Godard is doing something that I have literally never seen in a film before

discouragements aside (or perhaps combined), I’ve also been working for the last week on a simple website for black hole, as a way for ppl to better hear about screenings ahead of time. had one initially but took it down when we had to stop listing our address publicly 12 yrs ago

@atlajala We had about 8 people a newsreel screening with three former members back in November. Everyone was kind and excited to be there and took good inspiration from the films and q&a but it was also dispiriting in the way you describe
