@nickhillman @jim_dickinson It’s a provocative article… but I’d much rather read about those interactions with the author that might bring out a bit more nuance. Out of interest… Has anyone ever explored changing POLAR / IMD makeup of graduates over time and links to grad premium? Surely a factor?

@jim_dickinson As Josh knows, we had some interesting interactions with the author on this! I’d argue this one sentence does at least hint at it: “when you compare the NMW, another of the Blair Government’s policies, to the average graduate starting salary, the two have gradually *converged*”

@emaslin94 Haha love the honest reflection, Emma. I would say that one of the weirdest parts of a PhD is how often you have to be confronted by what you planned / wrote / predicted not THAT long ago and say, "what was I thinking!?" I guess a sign of progress?

Some great analyses of online engagement across POLAR groups here by @kellyedmunds et al. - Really nice to see a study that's honest with the challenge of how single interventions are rarely enough to address attainment / awarding gaps

@jim_dickinson Oh this is a classic. I think if we’re being honest as a sector… this scenario could apply to perhaps up to 50% of unis that have personal tutoring provision

As I'm in the middle of four (🥲) R&Rs this summer, must say, there is a world of difference between a reviewer who is committed to making *your idea* lucid and well structured Vs One who arbitrarily wants you to engage with *their* idea, even if irrelevant to the argument

A welcomed step forward in restoring the idea that politics should be about service. I would say that this should go further and include a ban on MPs taking second jobs in the media. Can journalists really hold politicians to account when they share an employer?

EXCL: MPs will be prevented from taking on second jobs that fail to meet new test of putting constituents first, under government plans to “turn the page” on era of sleaze and scandal. My interview with Commons leader Lucy Powell 👇🏼 theguardian.com/politics/artic…

@jim_dickinson A compelling point, Jim. Do you know if there’s data available on how many / what proportion pay fees up front?

It's why Labour should slap VAT on fees for home domiciled families that pay their university fees upfront

This is your regular reminder that the continued freeze on fees is making (largely Russell Group) universities increasingly cheap for those that send their kids to private school

We don't hear enough about public health successes. Here's one. Trachoma, a major bacterial cause of blindness, has declined massively across Africa over the past few decades, after directed efforts to provide antibiotics, clean water & improve hygiene.

@drjennings I can't quite think how to articulate myself on this... but I feel like mortgage percentage is also likely to be correlated with areas that were Conservative in 2019... and thus where Labour was targeting their campaign efforts?

By tomorrow well over 60 MPs will have been former SU sabbatical officers. Note to Starmer - they’re a great bet for ministerial jobs. Will understand the required relationship between the Civil Service and ministers very fast.

Half a life ago, I got to work with Darren on the first Southampton Fairness Commission. He’s a hard-working, decent and passionate person who I know would be great for Southampton. So great to see him get this opportunity to represent Itchen 🌹
Darren Paffey MP@darrenpaffey

Thank you to everyone who has helped in this last weekend of campaigning. The message people are giving us is loud and clear: it’s time for change! Remember that if you want change in Southampton Itchen, you have to vote for it. #VoteLabour🌹🇬🇧

The Tories are running a fake fact check scam against the BBC debate. See how they've renamed and rebranded their website to make it look like something it's not. Spread the word. Don't let them get away with it. #bbcdebate
