This was how the British Foreign Secretary, Sir Edward Grey heralded the start of WWI. The lamps went out, came back on, then went out again for WWII before coming back on again, they’ve been on ever since.
Sadly it now looks like they are about to be extinguished again as we face up to the increasing threat from within, the threat of Islam. A threat allowed in by the naïve foolishness of a political class who have not only ignored the lessons of history but have also burnt the books so the younger generation cannot learn those lessons. It’s treason and treachery to a degree that it threatens our very civilization.
I’m talking about European civilisation, the civilisation which through trial tribulation and pure determination has tested itself to the point of destruction in order to move mankind forward and forge a modern world worth living in.
I’m a history buff and the enormity of the journey our civilisation has undertaken isn’t lost on me but I do believe that many of my fellow Europeans don’t realise just how precious their inheritance is and just how close they are to letting it slip through their fingers.
Everything we enjoy, our way of life, our very existence is the product of generations of sacrifice and we are the lucky people reaping the rewards or at least we should be.
Let’s take an example, something we all take for granted, you're probably looking at it now. The mobile phone, well it’s far more than that really it’s a computer a man made miracle. The Great Library in your pocket, everything you could ever wish to know and a lot more besides at your fingertips. Roman emperors would have given half their kingdom for what we all now take for granted.
That mobile phone is the product of two millennia of combined effort. Knowledge building upon knowledge, insight gained from the sacrifice of war, knowledge gained from a thousand failed experiments, knowledge passed down through the generations.
Are we so foolish, so arrogant that we fail to see that we are allowing ourselves to be the generation who failed, the generation who lost it all because we couldn’t be bothered to save it and pass it onto the next generation? Are we really going to allow ourselves to be referenced as the last generation, the most cowardly, the worst?
We are allowing bad people to lead us to a bad end. Past generations knew the threat of the barbarian and made great sacrifices to keep him out. Those past generations were led by leaders whose fates were tied to their people’s fate. If the people went down then so did the king or emperor. The people leading us now are not tied to us in this way. If Europe falls or is given away by them, then they will simply move on. It will be those of us left behind who take the suffering and it’s already happening as we see hitherto unheard of levels of crime committed against Europeans by the barbarian.
Maybe it is already too late, maybe we have lost the collective will to resist, maybe the forces against us are just too great or maybe we’re just not worthy of our inheritance and deserve to lose it but are we really so pathetic, so weak, so spineless, that we will not even put up a fight, try to hold onto that for which so many before us laid down their lives to pass on to us? Are we going to allow the lamps to go out and never come back on in our lifetimes? Are we really going to allow ourselves to be referenced as the worst ever generation, a generation of cowards?
