Sussex Emerald caterpillar, on its more usual, for Kent, Wild Carrot (fingers for scale and focus - my finding skills were woeful today - all finds by others). Caterpillar will also use Ragwort - and other plants abroad.

Sussex Emerald caterpillar consuming a plant its not supposed to - insect highlight of a 33deg survey at Stodmarsh today. Cuckoo, Bittern, Marsh Harriers, Hobbies and Cattle Egret the bird highlights, the first two heard rather than seen.

@URewilding @DefraGovUK Gardens can be great for wildlife habitat, but I imagine new ones are not - so new housing must be right up there in Kent too - it is also the main driver for new transport infrastructure. Agriculture perhaps if change of use, but mostly see it going to housing and renewables.
English

@DefraGovUK In Kent, best habitats are outside of National Landscapes (designated for landform not ecology). Agriculture & transport infrastructure is destroying remaining Kent Downs habitat. National Landscape extensions into areas like the Greensand Ridge are needed if '30 by 30' to work.

£30m to create and restore wildlife-rich habitats across England’s National Parks and National Landscapes 🌿
This new funding could benefit hedgehogs, bees, butterflies and more!

@AngelikaHTCG @ryeharbour_NR I did not realise they could be found at Rye. Nice find.

🤩 star find at @ryeharbour_NR … Lizard Orchid ‘Himantoglossum hircinum’ ♥️ #WildflowerShow #wildflowerhour

Sainfoin. Seen throughout but some areas were full of the plant near South Foreland lighthouse, on the White Cliffs of Dover today.

@ray_rambling @BritishMoths Beautiful insects when they let you get close - same place. Did you get to see Small Pearl, they had only just started flying last Friday, I did not see one.

English

Thrilled to have a Rare close up view of a Speckled Yellow Moth Pseudopanthera macularia, BC Park Corner Heath East Sussex this week. They have the most acute hearing of Woodland day flying Moths, hard to get within 10ft of. Larvae feed on Wood Sage @BritishMoths #MothsMatter

English

@AngelikaHTCG You can walk the entire top of the cliff lined coast from Eastbourne to Cuckmere Haven and get a return coastal explorer bus back - or visa versa. Its a cracking walk, amazing views.

@curiocritters Ennominae - might be the correct answer.

@AngelikaHTCG Hollywell, Eastbourne. Its all over the South Downs, and parts of the North Downs.
English

@DavidKentNature Where along the Sussex coast did you see this, David? It’s so pretty 😍
English

@MikeFRobinson Mike I think it flew for about 4 seconds, straight in to next doors tree full of Sparrows - but at least this one got to fly... that's nature for you.
English

@mike_gould6 I was looking forward to seeing the sea wall in a few days when warmer..... at least the flat bit next to reed bed does not get mowed.
English

@DavidKentNature Early have been the most common but very few terrestris and red tails, and so dry, no flower. To help matters EA have just razored all the sea wall grassy banks!
English

Seasalter 'Beeroad' this morning, 3 B. humilis and two Large Red-tailed cuckoo bee. @DavidKentNature

English

@mike_gould6 Early, Tree, RedT and Common Carder have been ok locally, queens anyway. I am wondering if the very dry period impacted plants to the extent the queens of many species were struggling to establish nests.
English

@DavidKentNature Yesterday was the sign of anything happening, its been dead until now.
