Over the weekend one of our members read the numbers on bands on live birds that we had banded, and found quite astonishing longevity, a White Fronted Tern is now 25 years 4 months and 4 days old, while a Black Billed Gull is now 27 years 4 months and 7 days @DavidLawrie52

The satellite wearing Red Knot that has not left NZ yet, and is still based in the Manukau Harbour, must have known he had to go somewhere so flew down to Farewell Spit for a couple of days and back again, a round trip of about 800kms!!!

Meanwhile the third Red Knot satellite tagged HUC was seen today in the Manukau Harbour still quite happy sitting there, will it migrate or stay in NZ?

The team from the EAAFP office and one of the researchers from the Hanns Siedel Foundation, called into our house yesterday morning for breakfast, they are on a brief visit to NZ after the MOP in Brisbane, we then went to the Miranda Shorebird centre and the Flyway site, welcome!

Our delegate on the East Asian Flyway Partnership is gearing up to travel to the MOP in Brisbane starting this weekend, where reps from the countries along the flyway gather to find ways of protecting migratory birds and habitats

Our Godwits are leaving. Large group left last night from Southshore Christchurch.
