Nick Faldo almost derailed his career in order to rebuild his swing. It was a long process that led to difficult seasons, loss of sponsorships and tight finances. And the Sanderson Farms Championship, which is being played this week in Mississippi, was a crucial moment in the process. Let me explain. In 1987, the tournament was known as the Deposit Guaranty Championship and it was played the same week as the Masters. The 1987 Deposit Guaranty was when it all finally ‘clicked’ for Faldo. He became a major champion shortly afterwards, eventually winning three Masters and three Open Championships. Faldo had early success as a pro but he’d also been given the nickname “Nick Foldo” for falling apart at crucial moments. That’s why he decided to tear apart his swing even though he’d already been a European Tour Rookie of the Year, Order of Merit winner, made multiple Ryder Cup appearances and was a PGA TOUR winner. It was a long, painful process, but one that Faldo thought was necessary. Faldo enlisted David Leadbetter to help him build a “modern” golf swing, one that featured less leg drive and didn’t have the reverse-C finish that was en vogue in the 1970s. This new swing relied more on rotation than lateral movement, with the “big muscles” driving the swing instead of the hands. To ingrain this new move, Faldo hit 1,500 balls per day under the watchful eye of Leadbetter (and under the hot Florida sun) at the Grenelefe Resort outside Orlando. Faldo had won the 1983 Order of Merit and the 1984 Heritage at Harbour Town, but by 1985 he needed a sympathetic captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup. Europe won that event – handing the U.S. its first loss since 1957 – but Faldo said he was sulking in the clubhouse as the team celebrated its historic win. He’d played just two matches, and lost both. It was a testament to his sinking form. A year later, his wife was induced so that Faldo could represent England in the Dunhill Cup at St. Andrews. Why? “We desperately needed the money,” he wrote in his autobiography. He was relying on appearance fees to make ends meet because his play wasn’t cutting it. “During this period, (our) finances were certainly tight and without appearance money, I would have been in dire straits,” Faldo wrote. Fast forward to the 1987 Deposit Guaranty. Faldo was in the Atlanta airport, headed to Mississippi, when a plane landed carrying European players and journalists headed to Augusta. “While they all took a right turn to Augusta, we turned left to catch our connecting flight to the boondocks of Mississippi,” Faldo wrote in his autobiography. It was a humbling moment, but this week turned out to be a blessing in disguise. “Lead’s teaching over the previous two years suddenly and mysteriously clicked into place,” Faldo wrote. He shot four consecutive 67s and finished second to David Ogrin. A three-year victory drought ended later that year at the Spanish Open. Then Faldo won the first of his six majors in The 1987 Open at Muirfield. Faldo had blown leads in earlier majors, but he said he felt like “a new golfer” this time around. The changes had clicked, and the new swing was more dependable and less reliant on timing. Eighteen straight pars on Sunday were enough for a one-shot victory. “It had been a long-haul journey,” Faldo wrote, “… but golf tends to be a sport in which you have to serve your apprenticeship.” The perseverance paid off. It was a testament to taking a risk, fighting through the tough times and doing whatever was needed to come out on the other end.

Biden just proposed the highest tax hike in history, a 44.6% capital gains tax for anyone who makes over $1 million per year. Biden will tell you this is so the wealthy can “pay their fair share”. What he won’t tell you is how this will prevent the lower and middle class from ever climbing out of economic disparity. Taxation is theft, these people are evil.

@cjwinefan @MiracleSwing @tnautolocksmith Oh it is to a large or lesser degree ,depending on the players issues .I have always taught a version of the ASwing -steeper back ,shallower down -Nick Price and Sir Nick Faldo . Feel it's more natural and many tour players do it !Any slicer should really try it 👊

Michelle Wie almost made the cut in a men’s PGA event at 14 years old. I believe this swing did not need to be changed. What do you think? 🤔

@MiracleSwing @tnautolocksmith Well it's always interesting as a lot of young phenoms have a lot of involvement from family members shall we say which is quite understandable but requires the coach to convince them as well !

@davidleadbetter @tnautolocksmith I've always wondered what a professional coach's job is when you encounter a phenom like Wie, or Tiger. Is it different than Faldo? Who was quite good, but not all the way there?

@tnautolocksmith @MiracleSwing If you took the time to enquire, Michelle always danced to her own drumbeat and the changes she made over the years were always down to her wanting to make them on her own .She went through many swing changes through the years ,due to injuries and self exploration .

@yinfengding @GolfDigest I like his motion .Downswing head drop is the effect not the cause ! Get his left hip and shoulder higher at address . Then left side can tilt down more on backswing -hands will be lower 1/2 way back ,left shoulder lower at the top -can then maintain height in transition 👊

@tonyarona @GolfDigest Tony ,I'd like your swing to be more dynamic .If you would think of more of a tilt than a turn -it would help .Id like to see the left shoulder work downwards and the right hip up as you start back .Get on a side slope ,ball beneath your feet to feel this -it will help your coil.

@alfonsoguevara Move the butt end of the club away to start your swing and feel your right arm staying on top of the left -you are rolling the club away which creates a lack of coil resulting in you throwing the arms out and over the top .Try my new StraightAway swing aid to fix it! Good luck 👌
