@xevekiah My middle school English teacher accused me of plagiarism, not because it borrowed from other writers because my creative writing was “too good,” to possibly have been written by me. I feel your pain!

In senior year, my math teacher accused me of using a calculator on a no-calculator test because my answers were “too precise.” He held my paper up and said, “You suddenly understand this chapter?” I said, “Isn’t that… the goal?” Wrong choice of words. The class did that quiet oooo sound like I had just disrespected a king. I wasn’t even trying to be slick. I just studied for once instead of crying the night before. He told me to stay after class. I stood there while he flipped through my test like it was evidence in a crime documentary. He asked me to redo one problem on the board. My hand was shaking but I solved it the same way. He stared at it, paused, and said, “Hm.” No apology. Just “Hm.” Later that day he emailed my mom saying there were “concerns about academic integrity.” My mom replied, “The only thing she’s guilty of is finally understanding fractions.” He never accused me again, but every time I raised my hand after that, he looked at me like I had a hidden earpiece feeding me answers from the CIA. All that because I dared to improve.
