4. Instead, we find that the relationship between phonemes and time may be mediated by other dimensions. In particular, speed, valence, arousal and brightness. For example, phonemes associated with quickness/brightness were also associated with the future.

3. We were intrigued by the idea that this could be an embodied effect, via the metaphor that the "future is ahead" and the "past is behind". In Experiment 4 we compared phonemes articulated in the front vs. the back of the mouth, but didn't see an effect.
