#PIRATES TRADE DEADLINE IDEA: The Pirates may soon have a glut of position players w Spencer Horwitz & Oneil Cruz returning from the IL and eventually Endy Rodriguez & Konnor Griffin coming back. With the trade deadline approaching, the Bucs, are in desperate need of bullpen help. Should they move prospects to acquire that help? Is there an out-of-the-box answer? How about trading Brandon Lowe? Lots of discussion last wk about Brandon Lowe getting snubbed for the All-Star gm. Lowe hit 2 HRs Opening Day & got off to a scorching start to the season. His numbers thru May 27 were certainly All-Star-worthy: 220 PA, .269/.355/.560 .914 OPS, 14 HR, 36 RBI But since the end of May, Lowe hasn't been the same player: Since May 28: 182 PA, .220/.269/.402 .672 OPS, 7 HR, 28 RBI For comparison, May 28 is the day Tyler Callahan made his #Pirates debut, His numbers: 89 PA, .244/.326/.449 .775 OPS, 3 HR, 15 RBI New Pirate Jacob Gonzalez made his ML debut on May 31, His numbers: 97 PA, .244/.323/.360 .683 OPS, 2 HR, 17 RBI Lowe is looking to cash in as a free agent this offseason. Is 3 yrs/$75M a realistic number? That's cheap if you get March-May Lowe. Not so much if you get the Lowe of the last six weeks. With so much offensive production, players coming back from injury & the unlikelihood of re-signing Lowe, maybe it's time the Pirates to look at moving him. I'm sure there are contenders who would love Brandon Lowe's bat. But they probably wouldn't be interested in moving a top reliever. Can GMBC put together a 3-team deal where the Pirates move Lowe to a contender. The contender trades a prospect to a third team and that team sends a reliever to the Pirates? Sure there may be some dropoff from Lowe to Callahan/Gonzalez, but not as much as you might imagine. And if they can add a reliable arm to the bullpen it's definitely something the team should consider.

#Pirates are going to have some very interesting roster decisions as guys get healthy and come back from injury: Horwitz, Cruz, Endy and Griffin eventually. Cook & Flores obviously go, but who else? Trade deadline can be impactful as well.
