@Clifford49 @FoB_blog It would give parliament something useful to do. And cause less harm to usthan than what HoC normally does.

Prince Harry should have been stripped of his title and removed from the line of succession when he stepped away from royal duties.

@FoB_blog @Nigel_Farage @Tony40335450 I totally agree. When you see the boats coming in it should be easy to turn them back. The long-term tenancies at top money the usual big contractors are now initiating can do nothing but increase prices across the board. Those trying to get on the ladder are totally screwed.

@DavidOHagan7 @Nigel_Farage @Tony40335450 It is insane that 5 people cannot get along. Mass deportations are not feasible. It needs to be made clear that people who arrive illegally will not get citizenship, benefits or housing. I don’t understand how an island nation cannot do a better job of stopping the boats.

Reform UK's policy team has drafted a comprehensive strategy for the deportation of illegal migrants. We will operate a zero tolerance policy for those that enter our country illegally. dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…

@PawlowskiMario Writing from England, it appears to me that the tariff fiasco & pro Russia stance by Trump, has already destroyed Americas reputation. It will take generations for the world to regain trust in the judgement or word of American leaders, or their electorate.

Listen up America 🇺🇸 I need every American to understand something before it is too late. MAGA is not just a political movement. It is a virus that already destroyed America’s image around the world. When MAGA finally collapses, and it will, the fallout will not stay inside America. It will be global. The world will not care if you were a good American or a bad one. The world will just remember that the country that was supposed to lead democracy handed its future to a dumb, corrupt, classless clown. Twice. Respect is earned over generations. It is lost in one moment of weakness. And America already lost a huge part of it. Even if Democrats or sane Republicans take back control, the world will still doubt. They will still ask Can we trust them again? Or will they fall for the next idiot who sells them flags and conspiracy theories? This is serious. The window to save even a part of America’s leadership is closing fast. This is not about liking Biden. This is not about taxes or gas prices. This is about saving the future for your kids. For the world. I will fight until my last breath to make people realize what is really happening. Because I love this country. I would die for it. I was born and raised in Europe. I grew up under communism. I saw it collapse with my own eyes. I saw what happens when people wake up too late. In Poland, we had Solidarność. We had Lech Wałęsa. We had help from America’s own Ronald Reagan. We had John Paul II. We fought like hell to break the system before it was too late. America needs its own Solidarność right now. Not tomorrow. Now. You do not have years. You do not even have many months. You have one shot left to fix this before the door slams shut. Rise. Not just against Trump. Raise against MAGA. Raise against corruption. Raise against propaganda. Raise for the future. Rise for the America the world once respected. Or lose it forever. It’s a final warning, window of opportunity is closing fast.

@sophianictract @JHallHDI There's something in that. For example I enjoy the Latin Mass& when I can attend the Bham Oratory, but I'm nowhere near the purist on such issues as converts I've met. Albeit I detest post war Catholic 'architecture' & would happily take a bulldozer to SS Peter & Paul Lichfield.

@JHallHDI @sophianictract Congratulations Matt. I often think that there's more merit, certainly more thought and effort in those who seek adult catachesis than in cradle Catholics.

--> WH sends Harvard letter making outrageous (and illegal) demands --> WH now says it was sent by accident (oops!) --> WH blames Harvard (?) for reacting to the letter they sent --> Harvard: The letter “was signed by three federal officials, placed on official letterhead, was sent from the email inbox of a senior federal official and was sent on April 11 as promised,” Harvard said in a statement on Friday. “Recipients of such correspondence from the U.S. government — even when it contains sweeping demands that are astonishing in their overreach — do not question its authenticity or seriousness.” Harvard's statement continued:

This was a c19th problem in the UK. The Victorians were anything but caring yet even they knew that adulterated food led to unhealthy workers. Unconstrained capitalism is evil. Regulation does cut a margin off profit but it is an general public good. Safety in food/goods is vital
Dr Ellie Murray, ScD@EpiEllie

Some of y’all forget the reason we have food safety regulations is because companies used to do things like adding chalk to spoiled milk so it looked normal. Regulations don’t exist because governments enjoy them. They exist because pure unadulterated capitalism would kill us.

@EFTA4UK I imagine the reality is that Chinese ships are taking formerly US bound ships to wherever they can get a deal. Cheaper goods will become a rarity in the US version of Poundland & B&M. Probably extending to less obvious cost cutters such a their Tesco or Sainsbury's.

And lo! The jurisdiction of the court of the other side was accepted! Failing to take the EFTA option(s) was a mistake. That said neither business nor the consumer is going to lose sleep over alignment on SPS. It will kill a deal with 🇺🇸 though.
Ellen Milligan@EllenAMilligan

Scoop: The UK has signaled to the EU that it's open to accept the dynamic alignment of rules on agrifood products + supervision of the ECJ over the SPS deal it wants to negotiate. Big shift in UK position. w/@europressos + @AlbertoNardelli bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

As many folk on here will being doing, Im crying with laughter as Trump is made to look an even bigger fool now his tariffs have lost another war with reality. Exempting computers, phones, chips etc removes the bite. More importantly we now know for certain that Trump's a coward.

As the world trading system reconfigures, my view is that the best strategy for the UK, as a commercial society, is to work with the notion of building 'commercial partnerships'. This was, in fact, the strategy advocated by classical liberals in the 18th century: it was their alternative to 'political empire'. At a global level, the base foundation for this has already been laid: the CPTPP. A reminder of its current members: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand (the depository nation), Peru, Singapore, Vietnam, United Kingdom. Applications to join have been made by: China, Taiwan, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Uruguay and Ukraine. Expressions of interest appear to have been made by: Thailand, the South Korea, the Philippines, and maybe others. There seems to be substantial scope for productive economic diplomacy here. Avoid being drawn into choices to join this or that political hegemon playing its (not so great) imperial games, just focus on the commerce itself. (FAOD: military partnerships are obviously a different matter.)

@bordesleygreen Spot on. The M6 from J4 to J12 should be local traffic only. The M6(Toll) was first called the Birmingham Northern Relief Road. That is exactly what it should always have been.

As what was 'British' Steel moves towards (re)nationalisation, let's hope that our water & other core public infrastructure make the same journey. Railways and Water are the low hanging fruit in this game.
