The apostles’ writings were Scripture from the moment they were given. 2 Peter 3:16 already calls Paul’s letters “Scriptures.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13 says their preaching is “the word of God.” These weren’t later “made” Scripture by the Church—they were Scripture when written because they came from God. Let's not forget also that they had the Old Testament and Paul instructs to not go beyond the written Word in 1st Corinthians 4:6. 3. “Pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Tim. 3:15) doesn’t mean source of truth. A pillar holds something up... it doesn’t create it. The Church supports, preserves, and proclaims the truth. It doesn’t invent it. 4. The timeline actually supports Sola Scriptura, not undermines it. The apostles didn’t say, “Trust the Church apart from the Word.” They constantly pointed believers back to what was written (John 20:31, 2 Tim. 3:15–17). If anything, this argument quietly assumes what it needs to prove: that the Church has authority independent of the Word. But in Scripture, the Church only has authority insofar as it speaks the Word of Christ. So the real order is this: Christ → Word (preached & written) → Church Not the other way around.
