#Merseyside Sight Loss Council (SLC) volunteer Mike, reflects on his appointment as Sight Loss Council National Transport Rep. This role involves working with SLCs across the country to #MakeTransportAccessible for #blind and #PartiallySighted people.  Watch the full video below!  #MakeTransportAccessible #VisionForChange #SightLossCouncils   Video description:    The video begins with a slide showing Mike standing outdoors with a white background behind him. Mike has grey hair and is wearing a navy-blue jacket and a brown shirt and facing the camera. The text "My highlight of the year" appears above him in blue, alongside the Sight Loss Councils logo and the slogan “A vision for change.” The video then transitions to a close-up of Mike speaking directly to the camera.  Transcript:   “My highlight of the year”   “My name’s Mike Wright from Merseyside Sight Loss Council and my highlight of the year happened recently when I was appointed National Transport Rep. This position gives me the opportunity to shape things as to how they’re going to work out for the future and gives us real scope for the kind of things forward and improving life for people in the future.”   “White background image with sightlosscouncils.org.uk - Sight Loss Councils and Thomas Pocklington Trust logos.”

#Merseyside Sight Loss Council has been reflecting on what they’re most proud of this year. SLC volunteer, Carolyn, is most proud of their work to #MakeArtAccessible by raising awareness and making arts venues more inclusive for #blind and #PartiallySighted people 👓🏰. #SightLossCouncils #VisionForChange  Video description:  The video begins with a slide showing Carolyn standing outdoors. She has blonde hair and is wearing a checked scarf and coat, smiling at the camera with a white background behind her. The text "My highlight of the year" appears above her in blue, alongside the Sight Loss Councils logo and the slogan “A vision for change.” The video then transitions to a close-up of Carolyn speaking directly to the camera.  The final slide features a white background with the Sight Loss Councils logo at the top, followed by the website address "sightlosscouncils.org.uk" in black text, and the Thomas Pocklington Trust logo below.  Transcript:   “My highlight of the year”   “HI I’m Carolyn from the Merseyside Sight Loss Council and the highlight of my year really has been working here with everybody on arts and culture events.”  “And I’ve particularly enjoyed the event we did with Speke Hall because of the reception we got from staff and that really is a great thing to see.”  “White background image with sightlosscouncils.org.uk - Sight Loss Councils and Thomas Pocklington Trust logos.”

#MakeSportsAccessible - David Parfett, Sight Loss Councils Coordinator, debuted for England’s VI rugby team at the Alex Bassan Cup, where they celebrated a 2-0 win over Japan! 🏉  Several Sight Loss Councils run multi-sport taster events to encourage more people to get active and increase access. VI rugby is a seven aside, touch version of the game using a ball with bells inside to help players track it audibly. David's journey also highlights the need for inclusivity and recognition of B4 & B5 vision classifications in visually impaired sports internationally. 💪  Find out about Young Voices’ work to raise awareness by including B4 & B5 classified sports at our Let’s Get Active events in the future: bit.ly/3DlCXME  #VisionForChange #VIRugby #SightLoss #Inclusivity

🌟 Last weekend, Lancashire @SLCouncils invited #Blind and #PartiallySighted people to join them at Preston #parkrun, and it was an amazing experience for all! So inspiring to see participants running, walking, & volunteering—some for the very first time. Huge thanks to our amazing VI guides! 🙌 Kelly Barton, Engagement Manager, said: “We were thrilled to welcome everyone. Whether running or volunteering, it was fantastic! We know how much being active helps mental health, and parkrun is such an inclusive space.” Learn more about parkruns: parkrun.org.uk 🏃‍♂️ #SportsForAll #VisionForChange @Prestonparkrun @Southportpkrun @DocRunner1 @chrissiesmiles @PSH_A1674  [Video shows Sight Loss Council staff, volunteers and blind and partially sighted people running and warming up at Preston parkrun at Avenham park and interviews to camera. Participants are running on a path surrounded by trees and greenery. Volunteers are also playing instruments to support runners stood at the side of the path by a tree.]

E-scooters ‘can’ be hazardous for #Blind & #PartiallySighted people. Yesterday Merseyside Sight Loss Council met with staff from @VoiTechnologyUK to take them on a sim spec walk round #Liverpool so they could experience first-hand the difficulties that badly parked scooters pose

Today Greater Manchester @SLCouncils attended @HOME_mcr to view a exhibition created by @Brass_Art99 entitled Rock, Quiver & Bend which captures imagery which is distorted through differing textures. Thank you to @MindsEyeArts who audio described the exhibition.
